FTR #55 More Fun with Science

Listen now: Side 1 | Side 2

This program continues the exploration of the deliberate and accidental contamination of vaccines with deadly viruses and the role of an (apparently) genetically engineered micro-organism in “Persian Gulf War Syndrome”. These subjects are explored in several other programs including: the segments about biological warfare and Persian “Gulf War Syndrome”; the Interview with Ed Haslam and the Interview with Ed Haslam, Dr. Garth Nicolson, Dr. Leonard Horowitz and Dr. Alan Cantwell. The first half of the program consists of two front page articles from the Los Angeles Times of March of 1997 concerning, respectively, the vaccine controversy and the research of Dr. Nicolson on “Gulf War Syndrome.” Of particular interest is the possibility that the genetically engineered mycoplasma implicated in GWS may be contaminating the U.S. blood supply. The segment sets forth evidence that GWS may be communicable to animals and (possibly) from animals back to people. The second half of the program highlights Defense Department researchers’ isolation of genetic material from the virus responsible for the deadly 1918 flu epidemic (this epidemic killed millions around the world in the immediate aftermath of World War I.) These same military researchers have been predicting the appearance of another, similarly deadly flu epidemic in the not-too-distant future.
