This description contains articles that were not included in the original broadcast, in some cases because the stories broke after the program was recorded. Do not fail to note with whom Holocaust Museum shooter James Van Brunn was associated!
Documenting the varied and growing activities of “neo”-Nazi elements around the world, we note that a member of the British fascist party (BNP) has been invited to an annual tea that the Queen of England has at Buckingham Palace.
Supplementing previous broadcasts highlighting the re-emergence of fascism in the Ukraine, the program notes the banning of a Holocaust documentary by the neo-fascist/nationalist group misnamed “Freedom.” The government of Viktor Yuschenko has (to a certain extent) recapitulated the political agenda of the fascist OUN/B in the Ukraine.
Next, visiting a story that broke after the program was recorded, we note that the alleged slayer of an abortion-providing physician in Kansas was associated with the “Sovereign” movement, a populist/Nazi movement that maintains that its members are “sovereign” and don’t have to pay taxes. They also call themselves the “Lawmen” and are a bunch of raving fascists. Some of them are stone killers. Sadly (predictably?), they have garnered considerable success in marketing their agenda to the so-called “progressive” political sector.
In FTR #668, we noted the killing of three Pittsburgh cops, allegedly by a neo-fascist named Richard Poplawski. At roughly the same time as the Pittsburgh cop kilings, another neo-fascist named Joshua Cartwright killed two Florida cops.
Just before being published another of the milieu of the “Freemen”, “Sovereigns”, anti-tax and anti-abortion milieu committed yet another murder. James Van Brunn killed a security guard at the National Holocaust Museum. Van Brunn, too, adhered to the neo-Nazi creed and was an associate of Reagan White House staffer Todd Blodgett.
Among the most prominent American neo-fascists is former KKK leader David Duke, who has relocated to Austria, allegedly to become a naturalist/bird watcher! Other “Reichish” persons with whom Duke might network while in central Europe include NPD leader Udo Voigt (recently banished from a German military organization) and “anarchist” neo-Nazis, who are beginning to populate the increasingly violent German neo-Nazi scene. Swedish neo-Nazi leader Patrik Brinkmann has relocated to Germany and might bump into Duke as well.
One central European neo-Nazi with whom Duke will not be networking is Michael Dwyer. Though of Irish descent, Dwyer was associated with Hungarian and Romanian “neo’s”–until he was shot dead during an attempt on the life of Bolivian president Evo Morales. A domestic KKK leader whom Duke will not meet again is Klan leader (and probable U.S. intelligence operative) Roy Frankhouser, who died at the age of 69.
Program Highlights Include: Internal security leaks that have imperiled German fighting forces in Afghanistan; review of links between neo-fascists and “Black Bloc” anarchists; review of neo-fascist links with Islamists; discussion of the fallacy of assuming that neo-Nazis and neo-fascists are “uneducated” and/or “rednecks;” review of Frankhouser’s link to the death of Lee Harvey Oswald associate and American Nazi Party member Daniel Burros; review of the key position within the Reagan Administration held by National Alliance associate Bob Whitaker.
1. We begin with an article not included in the original broadcast. A member of the British fascist party (BNP) has been invited to an annual tea that the Queen of England has at Buckingham Palace.
“BNP leader Nick Griffin looked set to be barred from attending a Buckingham Palace garden party as the political backlash over his controversial invitation grew last night. Pressure was growing on Richard Barnbrook, the far-right group’s London Assembly member who has invited Mr Griffin to accompany him to the event on July 21, to nominate a ‘more acceptable guest’ or have his invitation withdrawn.
London Mayor Boris Johnson has written to London Assembly chairman Darren Johnson demanding decisive action to prevent any ‘potential embarrassment to Her Majesty’. . . . .”
“A documentary film about the Holocaust has incited the wrath of the Ukrainian nationalist organization Freedom. The film, an amateur production entitled Two Tangos, was shown once in Lvov to older Polish-speaking school children at a state school at the end of last year. The showing was sponsored by the Jewish NGO Chesed Aryeh as part of a program in the local schools to encourage tolerance.
Local Freedom leader Ivan Grynda sent a complaint to the city prosecutor, claiming the showing constituted anti-Ukrainian activity. Grynda was offended by historical footage in the film showing women in traditional Ukrainian dress welcoming Nazi soldiers with flowers. After a month’s investigation, the prosecutor found that there was no criminal element in the showing of the film. Local authorities pressured schools to avoid the film in any case.
The intervention of Polish diplomats was necessary to save the director of the Polish school from dismissal. Freedom then insisted that a commission, made up of city officials and Grynda, be formed and that it send the film to educational experts. The experts commented that the film was inappropriate for young children due to its violent content. As a result, Chesed Aryeh was banned from conducting any activities in the Lvov school system.
Freedom gained attention last month after it financed a campaign of posters praising the local Waffen-SS Galicia division. The large posters depicted the emblem of the division with the words ‘They defended Ukraine’ written on them in Ukrainian. Freedom also successfully pressed for a plaque to be erected to the memory of that division. Lvov (Lviv in Ukrainian) is an ancient city in the west of Ukraine with a population of almost three-quarters of a million people. It had large Jewish and Polish communities before the Second World War. Those communities were nearly completely annihilated.”
3. Visiting a story that broke after the program was recorded, we note that the alleged slayer of an abortion-providing physician in Kansas was associated with the “Sovereign” movement, a populist/Nazi movement that maintains that its members are “sovereign” and don’t have to pay taxes. They also call themselves the “Lawmen” and are a bunch of raving fascists. Some of them are stone killers. Sadly (predictably?), they have garnered considerable success in marketing their agenda to the so-called “progressive” political sector.
“The suspect in custody in connection with the slaying of abortion doctor George Tiller was a member of an anti-government group in the 1990s and a staunch opponent of abortion. . . Roeder, who in the 1990s was a manufacturing assemblyman, also was involved in the ‘Freemen’ movement.
‘Freemen’ was a term adopted by those who claimed sovereignty from government jurisdiction and operated under their own legal system, which they called common-law courts. Adherents declared themselves exempt from laws, regulations and taxes and often filed liens against judges, prosecutors and others, claiming that money was owed to them as compensation.
In April 1996, Roeder was arrested in Topeka after Shawnee County sheriff’s deputies stopped him for not having a proper license plate. In his car, officers said they found ammunition, a blasting cap, a fuse cord, a one-pound can of gunpowder and two 9-volt batteries, with one connected to a switch that could have been used to trigger a bomb. . . .”
4. In FTR #668, we noted the killing of three Pittsburgh cops, allegedly by a neo-fascist named Richard Poplawski. A creature of the same political stripe as Roeder, Poplawski was also a follower of 9/11 “Truther” Alex Jones, himself a fellow-traveller of the neo-Nazi movement. (Note: Jones also features some anti-fascist material on his broadcast. He is not necessarily an ideologue, rather, it is sadly characteristic of the contemporary political landscape that commentators present fascists as anti-fascists and often can’t tell the difference.) At roughly the same time as the Pittsburgh cop kilings, another neo-fascist named Joshua Cartwright killed two Florida cops.
” . . . Academics and anti-bias groups agree that people like Poplawski, Cummings, and Joshua Cartwright — a 28-year-old National Guardsman, nascent white supremacist, and militia enthusiast who died in a gun battle after killing two sheriff’s deputies in Pensacola, Fla. — are on the fringes of American society and hold little political influence. A New York Times-CBS News poll last week found that two-thirds of Americans now say race relations are generally good. . . .”
5a. Just before being published another of the milieu of the “Freemen”, “Sovereigns”, anti-tax and anti-abortion milieu committed yet another murder. James Van Brunn killed a security guard at the National Holocaust Museum. Van Brunn, too, adhered to the neo-Nazi creed.
“On December 7, 1981, a man named James W. Von Brunn pulled out a sawed-off shotgun at the Federal Reserve Board headquarters, claiming to have planted a bomb and threatening to take members of the Board hostage. That was 40 years to the day after the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, though it’s unclear whether that’s a coincidence or not.
Years later, he’d describe the entire incident somewhat differently.
‘In 1981 Von Brunn attempted to place the treasonous Federal Reserve Board of Governors under legal, non-violent, citizens arrest. He was tried in a Washington, D.C. Superior Court; convicted by a Negro jury, Jew/Negro attorneys, and sentenced to prison for eleven years by a Jew judge. A Jew/Negro/White Court of Appeals denied his appeal.
At the time of his sentencing in March, 1983, he was 62 years old. He ultimately served six and a half years in prison, which seemingly did nothing to change his extreme views on race. Almost 20 years after he was released, police say, he stormed the secured entrance of the Holocaust Museum in Washington, D.C., with a shotgun and opened fire, wounding one guard. [The guard later died–D.E.] He was ultimately shot himself.
Von Brunn, apparently a World War II vet, has a long history of white supremacist writing. His book, ‘Kill The Best Gentiles,’ embraces Adolf Hitler’s view that Jews concocted World War I as part of a scheme to stab Germany in the back — a myth the Nazis used to justify the Holocaust.
He also wrote an internet posting complaining that Obama’s birth certificate and other documents have not been made public.
In 2003, he claimed to have conducted an investigation into the ethnic and religious background of Tommy Franks, the CENTCOM commander at the time, after some US troops were placed under British command in Iraq. . . .”
5b. Van Brunn was linked to former Reagan White House aide Todd Blodgett. In this context, it is important to recall that the Reagan administration personnel were selected by Otto von Bolschwing protege Helene Von Damm.
” . . . Todd Blodgett, a former White House aide to President Ronald Reagan who later became affiliated with extremist groups, said he spent a lot of time with Von Brunn in the 1990s and early 2000s.
Von Brunn is obsessed with Jewish people, Blodgett told the Post. He had equal contempt for both Jews and blacks, but if he had to pick one group to wipe out, he’d always say it would be Jews.
Von Brunn went so far as to say he fought on the wrong side of World War II, according to Blodgett.
You’d get the impression that he was intelligent and a bit off, said Blodgett, who worked as a paid FBI informant on white supremacist groups. . . .”
5c. Blodgett managed the Nazi music label Resistance Records for the Liberty Lobby. The label was then acquired by the National Alliance and its leader William Pierce.
” . . . the association between the Liberty Lobby and Resistance Records; the involvement of former Reagan White House Staffer Todd Blodgett in the Liberty Lobby’s financing of Resistance Records; William Pierce’s stated intention to use Resistance Records to market black metal music . . .”
5d. Again noting the legacy of the Helene Von Damm/Otto von Bolschwing axis within the GOP, the program highlights the fact that American neo-Nazi Bob Whitaker held a sensitive position within the Reagan White House. Available evidence suggests very strongly that Van Damm served as a functionary of the Underground Reich. Notice the position of National Alliance associate Bob Whitaker within the Reagan administration: ” . . . Special Assistant to the Director of the Office of Personnel Management, in charge of security clearances, staffing, and that sort of thing. . . .”
” . . . KAS: When we introduced you for the first time to our readers in National Vanguard, we gave a capsule biography of you as follows:
‘Mr. Whitaker was born and raised in South Carolina, and attended the University of South Carolina and the University of Virginia Graduate School. He has been a college professor, an international aviation negotiator, a Capitol Hill senior staffer, a Reagan Administration appointee, and a writer for the Voice of America.”
So you’re a Reagan administration appointee — what’s the story behind that?
BW: I was Special Assistant to the Director of the Office of Personnel Management, in charge of security clearances, staffing, and that sort of thing.
KAS: Why is someone with such excellent establishment credentials defending the White race, as you do in your work, without apology or regret? Isn’t that something that simply ‘isn’t done’ these days by anyone who wants to retain his position in private or public life?
BW: Well, I did it. And they cleared me at the highest possible levels, so if you do it right, you can do it. And I’m good at it. . . .”
6. Former KKK leader David Duke has relocated to Austria, allegedly to pursue a career as a naturalist–specifically a bird-watcher.
“David E Duke, who was once a KKK Grand Wizard, runs a business selling photographs of rare birds and other wildlife in a village near Salzburg. The discovery has outraged his neighbours in Austria which has struggled to shake off the scourge of a new wave of far right politicians. Mr Duke, who has previously denied Adolf Hitler used gas chambers in the holocaust, has rented a house by the Zeller lake near the city.
Local Green Party politician Karl Oellinger said Mr Duke roamed the Austrian Alps taking snaps of birds and wildlife and selling them on the internet. ‘He’s registered as living in Salzburg and although I can’t check official files I have it on good information he has lived there for four or five years,’ he said. ‘The Austrian police have known he’s been here all along. Apparently he can live here unchallenged as he travels to other countries to help the far-right movement.’
Mr Duke was recently deported from the neighbouring Czech Republic after promoting one of his books in Prague. But Government officials have said he is free to stay in Austria as long as he does not break any local laws. Alexander Marakovits, Interior Minister spokesman, said: ‘As a US citizen he can, as a tourist, stay three months at a time without a visa. And currently there is no evidence of criminal acts.’
Mr Duke said he lived a quiet life in Austria: ‘I’m not in Austria for any political activities. I just come to Austria to relax — the mountains are beautiful. The Austrian Alps are just beautiful. There’s beauty all over the world.’ . . .”
7. Perhaps Duke will eventually network with Patrik Brinkmann, a Swedish neo-Nazi who recently relocated to Berlin.
“German intelligence agents view Patrik Brinkmann as a leading figure among right-wing extremists around the world. He founded the Continent Europe Foundation in 2004 in Sweden. The aim of the Continent Europe Foundation leader Patrik Brinkmann is to move to Berlin by 2010 at the latest and create a Europe-wide Internationale of nationalists in cooperation with national organisations from all European people,” the group said in a statement.
Andreas Gram, a Christian Democratic member of the Berlin state legislature, on Thursday called the latest developments in the far-right scene “worrying” and demanded more information from the domestic intelligence service on the matter. Federal and state authorities keeping tabs on the neo-Nazi scene consider Brinkmann and his organisation to be part of a “new right” that operates internationally. . . .”
8. Investigating other aspects of the European neo-Nazi and neo-fascist scene, we highlight the dismissal of NPD leader Udo Voigt from a German military association. The NPD is the leading German neo-Nazi party.
“Leader of the neo-Nazi NPD party Udo Voigt has been kicked off the DBwV German Military Association after being sentenced to incitement of hatred and slander in a racial discrimination trial last month, broadcaster RBB reported on Wednesday. The DBwV’s leadership decided unanimously to exclude Voigt from the organisation due to the April 24 verdict, Lieutenant Colonel Ulrich Kirsch told RBB.
Voigt, a captain in the Bundeswehr reserves, belonged to the association for some 30 years, but now faces disciplinary action in a military court. If he loses his military status in these proceedings, he also faces being barred from the military reserve association too, Kirsch said.
Voigt and two other NPD leaders were found guilty of offending German national footballer Patrick Owomoyela — who was born in Germany to a Nigerian father and a German mother — in a World Cup pamphlet printed in 2006. The cover of the planner showed a German football uniform with the caption, ‘White. Not just a jersey-colour! For a truly national team!’”
9. Germany has been beset by a new brand of neo-fascist. Dubbed “anarchist” neo-Nazis by the estimable Der Spiegel, this brand of neo-fascist imitates the behavior of, and apparently works with, the “Black Bloc.” This type of alliance has been covered before, specifically in FTR #397. Note that, as is the case with “populist/fascists” in the U.S., such as some of the fascist tax protesters, there is a growing trend of fascist elements successfully networking with leftists. (Miscellaneous Archive Shows 19 and 21 document this trend, as well as growing liaisons between fascist elements and Third World movements, including Islamists.)
“New figures from Germany’s domestic intelligence agency show that the number of far-right crimes in Germany increased by 16 percent in 2008. Officials warn of the rise of Black Bloc-style ‘anarchist’ neo-Nazis who actively seek violence at demonstrations. Authorities in Germany have warned of a worrying new tendency within the far-right scene — the rise of violent ‘anarchist’ neo-Nazis.
Heinz Fromm, the president of Germany’s domestic intelligence agency, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, warned Tuesday of a ‘new phenomenon’ within the far-right scene. Presenting the agency’s 2008 report in Berlin, he said that over the last two years a scene had emerged of ‘anarchist’ neo-Nazis who dress similarly to the so-called Black Bloc of far-left anarchists and who deliberately seek violence at demonstrations. He put the number of so-called ‘right-wing anarchists’ at between 400 and 500 people. . . Schäuble and Fromm also warned of the threat of Islamist terrorism in Germany. Although there has not been a successful Islamist terror attack in Germany to date, that was no reason for complacency, they said.
‘We are still in the cross-hairs of violent Islamists,’ Schäuble warned, saying that the German military’s mission in Afghanistan is ‘a thorn in the side’ of Islamists. There are ‘significant’ numbers of potential Islamist extremists in Germany, Schäuble said, including converts to Islam. Many Islamists have traveled from Germany to Pakistan to attend al-Qaida training camps and there have been messages from terrorist groups clearly targeting Germany in recent months. Certain Muslim groups in Germany, such as the Islamist Milli Görüs movement, want to introduce Sharia law in Germany, the agency warned in its report. . . . ”
10. Taliban forces in Afghanistan have demonstrated operational capabilities indicating surprisingly good intelligence about Bundeswehr activities in that country. With the growing Islamist contingent in Germany deploying fighters to Afghanistan, as well as a documented link between Islamists and neo-Nazis, one wonders about the possibility of an internal intelligence leak in the German national security establishment. As noted above in the article about Udo Voigt, there is a neo-Nazi presence in the German military milieu. It is also distinctly possible that the leaks are within the deeply alienated Afghan population, who are increasingly hostile to the NATO and allied presence.
“Deadly attacks on the German military by the Taliban in Afghanistan this week have led intelligence experts to suspect the Islamist group may have access to German government information. Supposedly the Taliban had specific details of what was supposed to be a secret visit by Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier to the country this week. According to a western intelligence officer in Kabul, there are ‘clear signs’ that the Taliban has access to secret information from the German government. . . .”
11. A recent attempt on the life of Bolivian president Evo Morales featured participation by an Irish neo-Nazi who associated with central European neo-fascist groups that, in turn, may well have evolved from organizations that were allies of the Third Reich. Note that both the Rumanian Iron Guard and the Hungarian Arrow-Cross organizations were allied with the Nazis, in addition to jumping to the Gehlen spy organization, CIA and GOP ethnic heritage organization.
“The Bolivian authorities have claimed that Michael Dwyer, the Tipperary man shot dead by police two weeks ago, was heavily involved in neo-Nazi terror group Szekler Legion. Last week the Bolivian government released pictures of Mr Dwyer and other members of the group posing for photographs surrounded by guns. The group is also suspected of planting a bomb at the home of a Catholic cardinal in Bolivia the day before he and two Hungarian terrorists were shot dead.
The same terror group, which the Bolivians say Mr Dwyer (24) joined last October, was suspected of carrying out a series of attacks on the homes of Bolivian cabinet ministers, civil servants and politicians since 2006 when its leader Eduardo Rozsa-Flores sneaked into the country.
One of Rozsa-Flores’ closest associates, also a 32-year-old Hungarian, is living in Ireland and met Michael Dwyer when they worked together for the security firm I-RMS during its contract with Shell. I-RMS was making no comment on the affair but sources in the security industry said the Hungarian they employed had proper credentials and has no known criminal record in Hungary or elsewhere. On Friday the Bolivian government released pictures taken from cameras found in the rooms in the four-star hotel where five member of the gang were staying. The pictures include several of Dwyer holding guns and rifles.
The 32-year-old Hungarian ex-soldier travelled to Bolivia with Dwyer on October 20 along with two other Hungarians. While Dwyer stayed on the three Hungarians returned, two to Hungary and the 32-year-old ex-soldier to Cavan. It is believed he and a number of other men of east European nationality attended Dwyer’s funeral in Tipperary on Thursday but did not speak to any mourners.
Despite repeated claims that Mr Dwyer was an innocent party and had been associated with “adventurers”, photographs released by the Bolivian authorities last week show he was heavily armed and close with the terrorist ring-leader Rozsa-Flores, a man who has been implicated in ethnic cleansing in former Yugoslavia and who, at his own admission, was actively seeking the overthrow of left-wing Bolivian president Evo Morales.
He is also believed to have been an active member of Szekler Legion, led by Rozsa-Flores, until he was shot dead in Santa Cruz. In one of the pictures apparently taken on New Year’s Day, Dwyer and Rosza-Flores are sitting at a table covered with firearms and ammunition smiling to the camera.
Dwyer also he had a Nazi SS insignia tattooed on his arm. The tattoo was disguised in an elaborate, larger design but is clearly visible on his arm. He joked about it with associates on his Facebook page. Gardai are now investigating the activities of the neo-fascist Hungarians and Romanians who have come to the Republic in recent years. . . .”
12. Another member of the international fascist scene who will not be seen anymore is the late Roy Frankhouser, Jr. A Pennsylvania Klan leader, Frankhouser was allegedly a U.S. intelligence contract agent, either CIA or National Security Council. As discussed in AFA #13, it was at the home of Frankhouser that American Nazi Party member and Lee Harvey Oswald associate Daniel Burros committed his three-bullet “suicide.”
“The self-proclaimed head of the Ku Klux Klan in Pennsylvania died Friday in Spruce Manor Nursing Home, West Reading, with no known survivors. Roy E. Frankhouser Jr., 69, who had operated the Mountain Church of Jesus Christ in the 100 block of South Fourth Street, which doubled as the local KKK headquarters, had resided in Spruce Manor since November 2006. . . .”
