This pro­gram doc­u­ments impor­tant events in fascism’s rise and devel­op­ment around the world and through the years. After an exam­i­na­tion of the career of Ger­man Nazi pub­lisher Ger­hard Frey (whose asso­ci­a­tions include Nazi spy­mas­ter Rein­hard Gehlen and a tan­gen­tial role in the JFK assas­si­na­tion), the dis­cus­sion focuses on a 1998 con­gress of the AN, the Ital­ian Fas­cist Party that is the direct lin­eal descen­dant of and heir to Mussolini’s black­shirts. Present at the con­gress were Repub­li­can Rep­re­sen­ta­tive Bob Young and a rep­re­sen­ta­tive of the Israeli Likud Party. Other pro­gram high­lights include: Her­bert Hoover’s attempt to bring Marine Corps Gen­eral Smed­ley But­ler before a court mar­tial for “slan­der­ing” Mus­solini (But­ler was a two-time win­ner of the Con­gres­sional Medal of Honor); fas­cist antecedents to impor­tant ele­ments of both the Zion­ist move­ment and the Pales­tin­ian National Move­ment (includ­ing links to Yasser Arafat and the polit­i­cal milieu of Ben­jamin Netanyahu); the rise of a vir­u­lently anti-Semitic form of fas­cism in Rus­sia and its alarm­ing accep­tance by the Russ­ian author­i­ties: the sim­i­lar­ity between the ide­ol­ogy and polit­i­cal rhetoric of the groups men­tioned above and the right wing of the Repub­li­can Party.
