Update on For The Record Production

As veteran users of this website (and veteran listeners) know, I haven’t produced new For The Record programs for more than a year.

I reported that I had been obliged to suspend production due to the pressures of the day job. (I live an artist’s lifestyle, using paid employment to sustain myself while I do research, writing and program production.)

This was a necessary obfuscation, under the circumstances.

In reality, I was seriously ill. I have maintained my health very effectively over the years, on the balance.

I did let my dental health slide a bit, under the extreme pressures of the effort. A tooth became infected and the infection spread.

I had to have major oral surgery and was hospitalized for a month. It was a very, very serious situation.

Out of the hospital and danger, I am rehabbing nicely and am awaiting the construction and fitting of partial dentures. I was unable to speak clearly for a long time, necessitating the hiatus from broadcast production.

For security reasons, I did not disclose this when undergoing treatment–there are those elements who wish me ill and I didn’t think it prudent to be completely candid, under the circumstances.

I will be resuming program production very shortly. Until I have mastered my “new chops” and can speak without an impediment, the programs will consist of relevant excerpts of the old Archive Shows with introductions to be read by guest personalities. This material will be new to the overwhelming majority of listeners.

I will also be producing on-air interviews with guests, with surrogate interviewers posing questions which I will compose.
As soon as I am able, I will be back on the air in person. I do not think this will take very long, but, never having traveled down this particular road, can’t say for absolute sure.

I have driven myself relentlessly forward for more than three decades and am committed to the effort. Nonetheless, being in my sixties, I will be taking more time to “smell the flowers,” so to speak.

From the feedback I’ve gotten over the years, it has become apparent that many (if not most) of the listeners do not understand the truly Spartan and Herculean nature of my effort over the years. I will be sustaining that effort, but will be a little kinder to myself.

I ask this of listeners and users of this website:

  • Those of you who listen on non-commercial radio stations or networks should make it a point to subscribe to those stations during their fund-raising marathons.
  • Please do what you can to support Yours Truly materially. As I said, I work a day job and, with medical bills to pay, can DEFINITELY use some financial support myself. Eventually, I will have a PayPal account or some other button on the website, but that will come later.
  • Listeners who contribute via check or money order should understand that their contributions are a gift. You will NOT receive anything for them, nor will you be able to deduct them from your taxes–I am not a non-profit corporation. I have made my entire life’s work available for free, without asking anything in return. THAT is what people receive–again, there will be no gifts or premiums sent in return. Click on the “Donate” page at the top of the website for more information.
  • Obtain the flash drive containing the entirety of my life’s work , plus the anti-fascist books available for download on this website.

  1. Dave, if you never produced an additional single thing your body of work would still stand as an incomparable resource and life accomplishment.

  2. One of the nice aspects of risking several decades of your life to fight evil is that big life accomplishments like that are also tiny in just the right ways. So take a big whiff and smell those roses, because if you hadn’t accomplished as much as you have up to this point we’d probably all be smelling a different kind of flower by now.

I don’t think I’ve ever been this inspired to go to the dentist. Seriously.

  3. Dave,

I am very terribly sorry that you had to go thru this awful period of illness, and I do hope that your recovery is swift and sure.

I wish you all the best of luck in the weeks and months to follow. And thanks for all the work you’ve done over the years.

    Sincerely,

  4. For something like twenty years now, I’ve found your work interesting and the material that you’ve covered always invaluable. It’s great that your audience can look forward to the return of Dave Emory.

  5. Dave,

Thanks for your tremendous service to, and sacrifice for, humanity. I can’t express it enough. Thanks.

  6. Good on ya, Dave. I get that you’ve never proclaimed the left position. Nevertheless, I can’t think of anyone who clarifies what the far right is about in practical terms better than yourself.

Reserve one of those archive thingies for me.

  7. Your research has been seriously invaluable in time of intemporate indulgence. As a veteran listener, I have not been taken aback moreso that at the rampant apathy of the people today. It depresses me to say this, but we are cusping on the end of our freedoms and, mirroring your words, the death of the enlightenment. Many of us, especially from the younger internet gens and gamers, seem blindsided to what’s really in store for us and I only sound like a useless cassandra when confronting others on these issues.

What the hell will it take to wake everyone up?!!

However, I wish you the best of recovery and you have been our Paul Revere!

  8. So sorry to hear about the hell you have been through. I do encourage you to smell the roses just a tiny bit more. I do know what a Herculean nature you have accomplished. Maybe if more people had financially supported you, there might have been a little more balance, but with doing a job and all the other things you do to bring the knowledge to us.... I will be sending you some money. You deserve to be supported for the sacrifice you have made your life be. You will always be my hero.

  9. Yor are a national treasure. It’s difficult to express my admiration more than adding to chorus of people here saying, thank you. I will be making donations as I am able. In the meantime, I will continue to ‘spread the word’ as best I can. More than ever before, I believe in the mission of this website.

And thank you for teaching me that reality is stranger than fiction.

    To your health and happiness.

  10. you take care of your health because that comes first. and take all the time you want to smell the flowers. you have earned it, over and over again. even if you never do another program. “the center for medical consumers” is a great web site for health informaton. i know what i speak of because i have used their web site to cure myself of some problems when the doctors i went to had no idea as to what to do. also a book,“best pills, worse hills” by doctor stanley wolf.

I have used your work to educate my 20 and 30 year old because of your work. . You and your work have been a gift to the world.
We are here for you Dave.

  22. Mr. Emory

Let it be know that there are also those who have listened to you for at least 15 years and have attended many of your lectures that understand and bow in sustained humility at your tremendous effort and consistently high level of production. Your ability to retain in that cranium of yours such a tremendous amount of retrievable information has always left us awe. Thanks for all that you have done to enrich us listeners in all matters of global fascism. Live long and prosper. And do whatever you want. We will still be here.

  23. Hi Dave.

I let my teeth go too. A tooth located on the top right gum line grew infected. The infection spread from the gums to the inside of the jaw bone. That infection spread throughout my body for seven years. During that time my hip sockets and shoulder sockets were swollen. My knee was stiff and my lower back was also swollen. Both ears were swollen and painful. I also suffered from shortness of breath and rapid heart beat. I can say with all truth that I almost died four years ago. My wonderful mom nursed me back to health.

I had extremely expensive multiple oral surgeries over a five month period.

Five months later, the infection is finally draining out of the upper jaw and I am feeling better.

Take care of yourself, and looking forward to hearing your reports.

    Sincerely,

    William Diamond
    San Jose, CA.

P.S. Your the greatest antifascist researcher and reporter of all time. You should of won the pulitzer prize and the nobel prize for your reports on how america lost world war two. Someday I’d like to meet you and I will!

  25. Very sorry to hear about this. Dental pain is indeed a horror. One of the drawbacks of having “good teeth” early in life is that one tends to slide into bad dental health habits. Those bad habits serve you ill when age finally changes the story.

For dental emergency nights, I’ve hit upon one useful solution — peppermint extract. Root canal in a bottle. Of course, one whiff of the stuff can alienate roommates. But it alleviates the pain.

Of course, what you went through obviously required something far more drastic than that temp solution.

Perhaps some consolation may be found in the case of Roger Ebert, a veteran broadcaster suddenly bereft of the ability to speak. He’s a better writer now than he used to be, and he was quite good before.

On the internet, we are not sickly, vibrant, overweight, skinny, homely, lovely, poor, rich, well-spoken or mute. We are beings of pure thought trading ideas with other beings of pure thought.

    At least that’s the ideal.

  26. Hello Dave,

I am so sorry to read this. I have attended several of your talks and was hoping to attend more. I’m very sad there have been none and sadder to learn why.

I have been listening to you I think since the Nip Tuck days when I was going to college at Foothill College.

I have not done near as much as you in this area, but I feel that constantly delving into horrible and depressing aspects of life such as you and others report on can result in people ignoring their health or becoming depressed and isolated, not to mention getting older as we all are and how the realizations hits us that things do not seem to be “getting better all the time” as the Beatles’ song goes.

The big letdown of Obama and the specter of Mitt Romney being elected is very upsetting to people, as well as having the hope and change message dashed back in our faces.

I am starting to find it more and more difficult to keep informed and reading up on about these problems because it seems there is no agreement on common points of fact or common interests among people and so very little we can do except dwell within our own impotence. You need a part of your life for yourself that is positive and affirming and protects you from this fascist ugliness.

I hope to see and hear you again lecturing sometime. Please take care of yourself. Many of us appreciate your hard work and we would prefer you not run yourself into the ground.

    Best Regards, “a longtime fan”

  27. Dave,

One thing that has always puzzled me has been and is the peculiar and seemingly contradictory values that “THE LEFT” whatever that is, and whomever seems to have defined what that is has as regards the Arab/Israeli question.

It has always seemed to me that Israel, ie. the Jews, Judeo-Christian culture, Jewish scientists and critical thinking has contributed much to western culture and continues to do so.

It would be a cheap exaggeration to say that Islamic culture has contributed “ZERO” as in the zero, but Islamic culture has been centered in the main around all the things that we in the West have supposedly evolved beyond, blind faith, xenophobia, sexism, homophobia, totalitarianism, etc.

I would love to see the anti-fascist searchlight shined on this subject and the how or why of the this process explored and maybe explained. It’s something I have never gotten used to so naturally I tended to speculate if this is some kind of covert operation to insinuate the germ of ugliness in the left and liberalism that just goes against what seems to me to be right and correct.

Its one reason I have always had so much trouble with Pacifica Radio/Democracy Now which I otherwise really admire. Their reporting is so well done and professional except when it comes to anything to do with the Arab-Israeli issue and the Middle East.

Can you enlighten me as to what or why this is and how it happened? Did it indeed begin with the corruption of what was a Leftist institution such as Pacifica/Democracy Now or was this somehow a natural outgrowth or some prejudice or anti-Semitism in the Left?

If this says something about the Left of something about the way human beings are I think it is important to expose it for discussion.

    Thanks,
    Bruce

  28. Dave, I’ve never met you, but we had one telephone conversation when I lived in the Bay Area and you took calls occassionally while broadcasting from KFJC. I’ve appreciated your program so much over the years, and you seem like an old friend — a special friend that knows what’s goijg on and always tells the truth. What I really want to say is how much I’ve admired your idealism and selflessness in sharing your research and important life’s work over the years. Now you deserve a bit of time for yourself, some relaxation, and some financial support from your listeners. All the best and I wish you a speedy recovery to full health.

  29. Hi Dave,
I’m so sorry to hear about your troubles. Unfortunately, selfless people like yourself who have worked so hard to report the truth face mammoth obstacles, and never reap the rewards of those who perpetuate the illusion.
Please be kind to yourself because as someone else said above, “if you never produced an additional single thing your body of work would still stand as an incomparable resource and life accomplishment.”

  33. GK, my friend, I was watching the election for over 12 hours on Tues.....not only did Obama win Virginia, but even Ohio and Florida, too, despite TPTB’s attempts to swing the election towards Romney. And that really surprised me.

What does have me a little worried, though, is just how badly TPTB & the far-right could react to Barack Obama’s second term in office.

If and when Dave gets back on the air, I’d like to see if he ever gets the chance to redo some of his programs about the Klan, the Neo-Nazis, & the militias, etc.. It could be that we could be seeing the ‘90s all over again in that regard, and maybe worse........
