Intro­duc­tion: This pro­gram dif­fers from oth­er broad­casts in a fun­da­men­tal way. 1. The pro­gram begins with a read­ing of the entire intro­duc­to­ry doc­u­ment to the book descrip­tions. Set­ting forth the his­to­ry of the car­tel agree­ments that finan­cial­ly nour­ished the fas­cist pow­ers, as well as the method­ol­o­gy of the Fifth Col­umn move­ments that facil­i­tat­ed fas­cist con­quest and then aid­ed its post­war resus­ci­ta­tion, the intro­duc­tion pro­vides a good overview of some of the fun­da­men­tal aspects of fas­cism.

2. Not­ing a cen­tral ele­ment of the analy­sis pre­sent­ed in For The Record, the pro­gram sets forth the influ­ence of the thought of Pruss­ian mil­i­tary the­o­reti­cian Karl von Clause­witz on the strate­gic doc­trine of the Ger­man pow­er elite over the years. 3. Uti­liz­ing their Fifth Col­umn con­tacts in oth­er coun­tries, the Nazis suc­cess­ful­ly planned to go under­ground, rely­ing in con­sid­er­able mea­sure on the assis­tance of Amer­i­can and British indus­tri­al­ists and financiers who had sup­port­ed them. 4. Next, the pro­gram details ele­ments of the Fifth Col­umn in the Unit­ed States, includ­ing the role of the Bush fam­i­ly. The text excerpt is from Under Cov­er by John Roy Carl­son.

5. 6. The cul­mi­na­tion of the plan­ning of thinkers like von Clause­witz and Friedrich List and the prac­ti­cal efforts of Mar­tin Bor­mann and his SS asso­ciates, the Euro­pean Mon­e­tary Union cor­re­sponds very close­ly to the 1940 Nazi plans for Europe, as relat­ed by Dorothy Thomp­son.
