FTR #564 Interview with John Loftus

He Who Tells the Truth Gets Chased Out of Nine Villages

Listen: MP3  Side 1  Side 2

REALAUDIO

Introduction: There is an old Turkish proverb that goes: “He who tells the truth gets chased out of nine villages.” In this program, Mr. Emory and John Loftus tackle the unenviable task of dispelling some of the deliberate disinformation concerning the recent Lebanon war, as well as analyzing the phenomenon of Islamic fascism. In addition to discussing the history and economic ideology of the Islamofascist Muslim Brotherhood, John and Mr. Emory highlight the Nazi characteristics of Hezbollah, the Lebanese Shiite guerilla organization backed by Iran. Hezbollah uses the Nazi salute, a gesture otherwise unknown in the Islamic or Arab world. This description also highlights Iran’s history of association with the Third Reich, as well as the relationship of the Islamic government of that country with elements of the Underground Reich. After reviewing the profound relationship between multinational corporations and the development of international fascism, John and Mr. Emory note that the free-market, globalized economic philosophy of the Muslim Brotherhood make it a vehicle of choice for the multinational corporations. In this respect, the current conflict between Western troops and Islamic militants around the world is strongly analogous to the Second World War, in which Allied soldiers were locked in mortal combat with the troops of the fascist powers, while transnational corporations (including American ones) were supportive of fascism. Much of the program covers the deliberate perversion of news about the Lebanon war. In addition to the deliberate alteration of photographs to maximize the appearance of damage to Lebanese civilian infrastructure, there is evidence that some of the alleged Israeli atrocities were either significantly exaggerated or fabricated altogether.

Program Highlights Include: John’s announcement of a fledgling program to provide Americans with access to oil that does not come from nations that support terrorism; John’s announcement of an up Intelligence Summit gathering that will feature the “silent majority” of peaceful Muslims, opposed to the ravages of militants like Hezbollah.

1. Before delving into the main body of the discussion, it may prove useful to present these URL’s featuring photos of Hezbollah rallies. The organization uses the Nazi salute—this gesture has no antecedents in the Arab and Muslim worlds. In order to understand the viewpoints of both John Loftus and Dave Emory on the Lebanon war, one should understand the implications of these pictures.

Hezbollah is an Islamic fascist organization. In that regard, it is worth noting that the Ayatollah Khomeini’s exile in France (before he became the head of the Islamic revolution that replaced the Shah in 1979) was subsidized by Francois Genoud. The government of Iran is also very close to Achmed Huber of the Bank Al Taqwa. Genoud was the heir to the political last will and testament and collected literary works of: Adolph Hitler, Martin Bormann and Joseph Goebbels.

2. In order to help the listener to better understand the historical relationship between Iran and Nazi Germany, Mr. Emory presents the text of an article that he read into the record in FTR#565. “Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has shot to the forefront of Holocaust denial with his rabble-rousing remarks last month. But it’s more like self-denial. The president of Iran need only look to his country’s Hitler-era past to discover that Iran and Iranians were strongly connected to the Holocaust and the Hitler regime, as was the entire Islamic world under the leadership of the mufti of Jerusalem. Iran’s axis with the Third Reich began during the prewar years, when it welcomed Nazi Gestapo agents and other operatives to Tehran, allowing them to use the city as a base for Middle East agitation against the British and the region’s Jews. Key among these German agents was Fritz Grobba, Berlin’s envoy to the Middle East, who was often called ‘the German Lawrence,’ because he promised a Pan-Islamic state stretching from Casablanca to Tehran. Relations between Berlin and Tehran were strong from the moment Hitler came to power in 1933. At that time, Reza Shah Pahlavi’s nation was known as Persia. The shah became a stalwart admirer of Hitler, Nazism and the concept of the Aryan master race. He also sought the Reich’s help in reducing British petro-political domination.”
(“Denial of Holocaust Nothing New in Iran Ties to Hitler Led to Plots Against British and Jews” by Edwin Black; San Francisco Chronicle; 1/8/2006.)

3. “So intense was the shah’s identification with the Third Reich that in 1935 he renamed his ancient country ‘Iran,’ which in Farsi means Aryan and refers to the Proto-Indo-European lineage that Nazi racial theorists and Persian ethnologists cherished. The idea for the name change was suggested by the Iranian ambassador to Germany, who came under the influence of Hitler’s trusted banker, Hjalmar Schacht. From that point, all Iranians were constantly reminded that their country shared a common bond with the Nazi regime.” (Idem.)

4. Note the presence in this sequence of events of Haj Amin al-Husseini, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem. The Grand Mufti was the first leader of the Palestinian movement and an individual whose presence figures prominently in the history of World War II, the Middle East, international fascism and the events in and around 9/11. “Shortly after World War II broke out in 1939, the Mufti of Jerusalem crafted a strategic alliance with Hitler to exchange Iraqi oil for active Arab and Islamic participation in the murder of Jews in the Mideast and Eastern Europe. This was predicated on support for a pan-Arab state and Arab control over Palestine. During the war years, Iran became a haven for Gestapo agents. It was from Iran that the seeds of the abortive 1941 pro-Nazi coup in Baghdad were planted. After Churchill’s forces booted the Nazis out of Iraq in June 1941, German aircrews supporting Nazi bombers escaped across Iraq’s northern border back into Iran. Likewise, the mufti of Jerusalem was spirited across the border to Tehran, where he continued to call for the destruction of the Jews and the defeat of the British.” (Idem.)

5. “His venomous rhetoric filled the newspapers and radio broadcasts in Tehran. The mufti was a vocal opponent of allowing Jewish refugees to be transported or ransomed into Jewish Palestine. Instead, he wanted them shipped to the gas chambers of Poland. In the summer of 1941, the mufti, with the support of key Iranian military and government leaders, advocated implementing in Iran what had failed months earlier in Iraq. The plan once again was for a total diversion of oil from the Allies to the Nazis, in exchange for the accelerated destruction of the Jews in Eastern Europe and the Nazis’ support for an Arab state. Through the Anglo-Iranian Oil Co., Iran had already been supplying Hitler’s forces in occupied Czechoslovakia and Austria. Now, the mufti agitated to cut off the British and the Allies completely and supply Germany in its push against Russia.” (Idem.)

6. “In October 1941, British, USSR other allied forces invaded Iran to break up the Iran-Nazi alliance. Pro-Nazi generals and ministers were arrested, and the shah’s son was installed in power. The mufti scampered into the Italian embassy, where he shaved his beard and dyed his hair. In this disguise, he was allowed to leave the country along with the rest of the Italian delegation. Once the mufti relocated permanently to Berlin, where he established his own Reich-supported ‘bureau,’ he was given airtime on Radio Berlin. From Berlin and other fascist capitals in Europe, the mufti continued to agitate for international Jewish destruction, as well as a pan-Islamic alliance with the Nazi regime.” (Idem.)

7. “He called upon all Muslims to ‘kill the Jews wherever you see them.’ In Tehran’s marketplace, it was common to see placards that declared, ‘In heaven, Allah is your master. On Earth, it is Adolf Hitler.’ When the mufti raised three divisions of Islamic Waffen SS to undertake cruel operations in Bosnia, among the 30,000 killers were some volunteer contingents from Iran. Iranian Nazis, along with the other Muslim Waffen SS, operated under the direct supervision of Heinrich Himmler and were responsible for barbarous actions against Jews and others in Bosnia. Recruitment for the murderous ‘Handschar Divisions’ was done openly in Iran. Iran and its leaders were not only aware of the Holocaust, they played both sides. The country offered overland escape routes for refugee Jews fleeing Nazi persecution to Israel — and later fleeing postwar Iraqi fascist persecution — but only in exchange for extortionate passage fees.” (Idem.)

8. Since the rise of the Islamist government in Iran, that country has become an epicenter of the Holocaust denial movement. “Thousands of Jews journeyed to Israel via Iran both during the Holocaust and during the years after the fall of Hitler, when Arab leaders, especially in Iraq, tried to continue Germany’s anti-Jewish program. Iran profited handsomely. Since the shah’s downfall, Iran has become a center for organized international Holocaust denial and has helped elevate the endeavor from fringe hate speech to a state-approved pseudo-intellectual debate. In international forums and on state-controlled radio, Iranian university experts and journalists help validate the revisionist views that Jews were never gassed or murdered in great numbers during the Holocaust. Indeed, Iran has become a refuge for the biggest names in European Holocaust denial. When in 2000, revisionist author Jürgen Graf was sentenced in Switzerland to 15 months in prison for Holocaust falsification, Graf fled to Tehran ‘at the invitation of a group of Iranian scholars and university professors who are sympathetic to Holocaust revisionism,’ according to the Institute for Historical Review, a denial clearinghouse.” (Idem.)

9. “What’s more, in May 2000, Iran’s embassy in Vienna granted asylum to Austrian Holocaust denier Wolfgang Fröhlich, who testified as a so-called expert witness during Graf’s 1998 trial. This saved Fröhlich from Austria’s severe anti-Holocaust denial statutes. Fröhlich argued that evidence proved no Jews were killed by Zyklon B gassing. Earlier, about 600 journalists and 160 members of the Iranian parliament signed petitions supporting French revisionist Roger Garaudy, who was fined $40,000 by French authorities for his book claiming the Holocaust was a myth. When Garaudy landed in Iran, the country’s supreme spiritual leader, Ayatollah Sayyad Khamenei, granted him an audience and lauded his work. Iran has played a leading role in the Holocaust drama and now tries to deny it. That should be very hard in a nation that was named for Hitler’s master race.” (Idem.)

10. In the main body of the broadcast, John began by highlighting an upcoming Intelligence Summit in St. Petersburg, Florida, at which the “silent majority” of peaceful, tolerant, non-violent Muslims will be the primary focus of the event.

11. A fascinating topic of discussion was introduced in public for the first time—“Terror-Free Oil.” The operant concept is the marketing of gasoline to the American public that is NOT produced by countries that sponsor terrorism. Some companies, such as Sinclair, do not buy oil from countries that support terrorism.

12. Next, the discussion turned to the subject of the Hidden or Twelfth Imam. This is a mystical belief held by some Shiite Muslims that maintains that a child who died a long time ago will come to life after certain signs manifest themselves, including apocalyptic and catastrophic events. The coming of the Hidden Imam will herald judgment day in the Muslim faith. Mr. Emory noted Iranian president Amadinejad is a subscriber to this belief. That mystical, apocalyptic belief system along with his denial of the Holocaust and vow to destroy Israel should prove very frightening to people, in light of the fact that he is seeking nuclear weapons. With many fundamentalist Christians seeing the events in the Middle East as the fulfillment of prophecy, Mr. Emory expressed great anxiety for the future of the world. John Loftus added that the Christians were not actively seeking the annihilation of the Jews, unlike the Muslims.

13. Next, John revealed that some of the major oil companies, especially Exxon/Mobil—were supportive of the insurgency in Iraq, because the turmoil minimizes the amount of Iraqi oil entering the world markets, keeping the price high. John notes that the multinational corporations are not supportive of the United States!

14. Next, John reviews the Webb-Pomerene Act, the onset and growth of fascism and globalization.

15. John reviews the genesis of the Muslim Brotherhood, the prototype of Islamofascist groups such as Hezbollah.

16. Mr. Emory then reviews an article about the laissez-faire commercial philosophy of the Muslim Brotherhood. The broadcast notes that that organization’s economic ideology is altogether consistent with the fundamental goals of multinational corporations and the practice of globalization. It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words. This picture of an Islamic Jihad campaign rally from April of 2005 speaks volumes about the Muslim Brotherhood. (Palestinian Islamic Jihad is a subgroup of the Brotherhood.) The Brotherhood’s populist pretensions and actual charitable accomplishments should not blind one to the true nature of the organization. As discussed elsewhere, the head of the Egyptian branch of the Brotherhood has denied the Holocaust. Keep this in mind when reading discussion of the Egyptian Brotherhood in the article below. “Judeo-Christian scripture offers little economic instruction. The Book of Deuteronomy, for example, is loaded with edicts on how the faithful should pray, eat, bequeath, keep the holy festivals and treat slaves and spouses, but it is silent on trade and commerce. In Matthew, when Christ admonishes his followers to ‘give to the emperor the things that are the emperor’s,’ he is effectively conceding fiscal and monetary authority to pagan Rome. Islam is different. The prophet Muhammad—himself a trader—preached merchant honor, the only regulation that the borderless Levantine market knew. In Muslim liturgy, the deals cut in the souk become a metaphor for the contract between God and the faithful. And the business model Muhammad prescribed, according to Muslim scholars and economists, is very much in the laissez-faire tradition later embraced by the West. Prices were to be set by God alone—anticipating by more than a millennium Adam Smith’s reference to the ‘invisible hand’ of market-based pricing. Merchants were not to cut deals outside the souk, an early attempt to thwart insider trading.”
(“Islam in Office” by Stephen Glain; Newsweek; 7/3–10/2006.)

17. Note that the Islamist government of Iraq has preserved the free-market, laissez-faire economic model crafted by Grover Norquist. “Today, with a spiritual revival sweeping much of the Muslim world and with the Bush administration still keen on democratizing the region, it is worth asking how an Islamist movement would manage the economy. Since 2001, Islamist parties have made strong showings or won elections in 10 Arab countries (Morocco, Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Bahrain, Egypt, Kuwait and Pakistan) and the Palestinian Authority. And none are clashing with the West on free-market economics. In Iraq, the supply-side economic-reform plan submitted in 2003 by former U.S. administrator Paul Bremer has survived with only minor revisions under Baghdad’s new Shia-dominated government. [Emphasis added.] An interesting test came in the January election in Egypt, when the Muslim Brotherhood—the fountainhead of modern Islamism—took a fifth of the seats in Parliament. Now the largest opposition party, much of the brotherhood’s appeal rests on its network of hospitals, schools and charities, which are often superior to state services (and help explain why the secular regime cracks down harder on the secular opposition than on the religious one). Fortunately for the reform-minded prime minister, Ahmed Nazif, the brotherhood’s economic agenda is largely consistent with his own, albeit with a more populist twist.” (Idem.)

18. “The brotherhood embraces free-trade deals in general, but criticizes the government for failing to negotiate better terms for Egyptians. Though Islam tends to frown on tax collection, the brotherhood supports tax reform (not abolition) and opposes a proposed flat tax as regressive. It even endorsed the recent decision to lift budget-busting food and fuel subsidies, but wants to use Egypt’s ample natural-gas reserves to finance a less painful transition to market prices. ‘It must be done gently,’ says Mohammad Habib, the brotherhood’s first deputy chairman, ‘with the objective of reducing the gap between rich and poor.’ In the 1950s, as the brotherhood gained political momentum, it opposed President Gamal Abdel Nasser as much for his decision to nationalize the Egyptian economy as for his fierce secularism. Muhammad, says Yasser Abdo, a Muslim Brotherhood member and a former economist at the International Islamic Bank for Investment and Development in Cairo, ‘believed in the private sector as the basis of productive activity,’ with a ‘limited’ state role.” (Idem.)

19. Note that although the Brotherhood officially disclaims monopolist economics, it does not question the OPEC cartel. “Today, brotherhood parliamentarians remain anti-statist and staunchly antitrust, citing a verse in the Qur’an: ‘He who brings commodities to the market is good, but he who practices monopolies is evil.’ Not that any member goes as far as questioning the OPEC cartel. As Cairo University economist Abdel Hamid Abuzaid puts it, Islam promotes ‘competition of a cooperative’ nature, not the ‘cutthroat’ Western kind. Politically, at least, the objective of fundamentalist Islam is to restore the Islamic caliphate, the unified Muslim kingdom of the 7th to the early 20th centuries that stretched from the Hindu Kush to the Strait of Gibraltar. This rhetoric turns more practical on the subject of trade. ‘If the ancient caliphate can revive itself,’ says Habib, who has a U.S. doctorate in geology, ‘it will happen through regional commerce.’ A brotherhood in power, says Habib, would respect Cairo’s free-trade agreements—though the group appears to be divided over whether it would honor one with Israel.” (Idem.)

20. Note that no less an authority than the World Bank views Ibn Khaldun—revered by the Brotherhood—as “the first advocate of privatization”! “In the days of the caliphate, Islam developed the most sophisticated monetary system the world had yet known. Today, some economists cite Islamic banking as further evidence of an intrinsic Islamic pragmatism. Though still guided by a Qur’anic ban on riba, or interest, Islamic banking has adapted to the needs of a booming oil region for liquidity. In recent years, some 500 Islamic banks and investment firms holding $2 trillion in assets have emerged in the Gulf States, with more in Islamic communities of the West. British Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown wants to make London a global center for Islamic finance—and elicits no howl of protest from fundamentalists. How Islamists might run a central bank is more problematic: scholars say they would manipulate currency reserves, not interest rates. The Muslim Brotherhood hails 14th century philosopher Ibn Khaldun as its economic guide. Anticipating supply-side economics, Khaldun argued that cutting taxes raises production and tax revenues, and that state control should be limited to providing water, fire and free grazing land, the utilities of the ancient world. The World Bank has called Ibn Khaldun the first advocate of privatization. [Emphasis added.] His founding influence is a sign of moderation. If Islamists in power ever do clash with the West, it won’t be over commerce.” (Idem.)

21. Noting that the trans-national corporations favored fascism (or “corporatism” as they preferred to call it), Mr. Emory and Loftus concurred that, in many ways, the multinational corporate community’s support for the Islamofascist Muslim Brotherhood is analogous to their support for the fascism of the World War II era. While U.S. and other Western nations’ troops are indeed fighting a real war against Islamists, at the same time, the oil companies and other transnationals are supporting Islamism as a vehicle for privatization and globalization. Both John and Mr. Emory agreed that this was not unlike the situation in the Second World War, in which Allied troops were fighting against the fascists, while many corporations and their most important personnel were collaborating with them.

22. Next, the discussion turned to the war in Lebanon, in particular some of the falsification and exaggeration of civilian casualties. Among the incidents outlined are the alleged Israeli attacks on ambulances, a readily verifiable fabrication. The ambulances that were supposedly attacked by the Israelis clearly were NOT struck by airborne munitions, neither missiles nor cannon fire. This should have been evident to even the most casual and unsophisticated observer. A conservative website presented a detailed, thoughtful analysis of the ambulance fraud: http://www.zombietime.com/ambulance. Note in particular the ambulance that supposedly was hit by a missile in the roof. First, no aerial missile could have entered at this angle. Beyond that, a round big enough to have caused such a hole would have disintegrated the ambulance and left a significant crater in the ground. This isn’t just disinformation, it isn’t even very well done. Take a careful look at the ambulances in this footage. http://www.videosift.com/story.php?id=6377. Once again, they clearly have not been struck by missiles or cannon fire. It is worth noting that the Australian Foreign Minister has echoed the fraud charges concerning the ambulances.

23. What John Loftus referred to as the “Non-massacre at Qana” also was greatly exaggerated, perhaps even fabricated. There was a period of several hours between the time Israeli munitions struck a building in that city and the time it collapsed. The corpses of children allegedly killed in that building exhibited advanced rigor mortis and were remarkably free of the blood, feces and urine that might be expected on the corpses of children who had been killed in an air raid. Check out this website and the analysis on it. Again, it should be noted that virtually all of the coverage of this important phenomenon comes from the conservative sector. The so-called alternative media haven’t touched the issue of the fraudulent “atrocities.”

24. It is worth noting that these obvious frauds had an enormous effect on world opinion. Indeed, the Qana non-massacre appears to have been a major factor in blunting the Bush administration’s support for Israel. Mr. Emory considers Hezbollah’s manipulation of events to be one of the most skilled and decisive uses of psychological warfare and propaganda in the history of warfare. The subject of media manipulation and the massive disinformation in the Lebanon war will be the focal point of future broadcasts. After the program had been recorded, another bogus incident surfaced, the supposed Israeli attack on a Reuters vehicle. View this website. Once again, this is NOT a vehicle that has been hit by an aerial missile. Once again, this isn’t even a good fake. In the program, John alluded to a Reuters photographer who deliberately faked photographs of Israeli air raid damage to Beirut.

25. The discussion concluded with John’s overly optimistic view that the Arab countries had given their tacit blessing to the Israelis to destroy Hezbollah. This does not appear to have been borne out by circumstances. On the contrary, the available evidence suggests that the U.N., the Lebanese government (of which Hezbollah is part), and the European countries that are contributing to the peace-keeping force are quietly colluding with Hezbollah. Hezbollah has already said it won’t disarm and the Lebanese army has said they will not attempt to force them to do so. The Europeans appear to be quietly acquiescing, as well.
