Listen: MP3  This program was recorded in one, 60-minute segment.

Introduction: The eighth interview with Peter Levenda, this program sets forth the historical and ideological foundation for the postwar perpetuation and operation of Nazism–“The Hitler Legacy.” Mr. Emory views this book as one of the most important political volumes ever written. Listeners are emphatically encouraged to purchase it, read it and tell others about it.

The thesis of this remarkable book might be summed up in an excerpt from page 307:

. . . . After World War II, the American people thought that Nazi Germany had been defeated and the “war” was over; this book demonstrates that it never was. Instead, we were told that Communism was the new threat and we had to pull out all the stops to prevent a Communist takeover of the country. And so our military and our intelligence agencies collaborated with surviving Nazis to go after Communists. We refused to pursue worldwide right wing terror groups and assassins. After all, they were killing Communists and leftists; they were doing us a service. Like Hoover and the Mafia, the CIA refused to believe a Nazi Underground existed even as they collaborated with it (via the Gehlen Organization and the like).

The whole thrust of this book has been that American leaders in business, finance, media, and politics collaborated with Nazis before, during, and after the war. The West’s share in the ‘blame” for Al-Qaeda, et al, goes back a long way–before Eisenhower–to a cabal of extremist US Army generals and emigre Eastern Europeans who didn’t have much of a problem with Nazism since they feared Communism more. The Church, the Tibetans, the Japanese, the Germans, the Croatians–and the Americans–all felt that Communism was the greater danger, long before WWII. We enlisted war criminals to fight on our side. We appropriated the idea of global jihad from the Nazis and their WW I predecessors. We amped up their plan to weaponize religion and convinced Muslims, who hated each other, to band together to fight Communism. And when Afghanistan was liberated and the Soviet Union was defeated?

September 11, 2001. . . .

This interview picks up where FTR #844 left off. Initially seen by the West and postwar Nazi elements ostensibly alligned with it as an Islamist geopolitical bulwark against Communism, the Sukarno regime in Indonesia eventually was seen as subversive, due to Sukarno’s aggressive pursuit of “Non-Aligned” status and leadership in the Third World national community.

As noted in FTR #844, one of the alleged participants in the unsuccessful 1958 attempt to overthrow Sukarno was Lee Harvey Oswald. The discussion highlights some of Lee Harvey Oswald’s apparent Nazi connections, including direct links to the 544 Camp Street/531 Lafayette Place address that housed the Guy Banister detective outfit.

According to his secretary, Banister was also a member of the American Nazi Party. Oswald’s address book also contained the name of Henry Warner Kloepfer, a prominent eugenicist linked to the Clay Shaw milieu.

Peter also notes that Sichereitsdienst agent H. Keith Thompson was the press agent for Marguerite Oswald, Oswald’s mother.

After reviewing the seminal work of Sterling and Peggy Seagrave on the Japanese Golden Lily program, Peter discusses Indonesia and the outgrowths of Axis war loot secreted in that country.

Against the background of Indonesia being a location of buried Golden Lily treasure, the program discusses Sukarno’s “Revolutionary Fund” and the evidentiary tributaries running into, and from, that entity. In addition to Golden Lily treasure, Sukarno appears to have had access to wealth made available by former Third Reich finance minister Hjalmar Schacht, who saw Indonesia as the keystone of an Islamist geopolitical barrier against the spread of communism in Asia.

The Revolutionary Fund is the background for a remarkable and open-ended investigation into a number of enigmatic personalities and their possible role in the Underground Reich’s presence in Indonesia

Program Highlights Include:

  • The post-coup appointment of “former” SD and Gestapo agent Dr. Hilmar Bassler as [West] Germany’s ambassador to Indonesia.
  • H. Keith Thompson’s channeling of funds to the political campaign of former Reagan White House Communications Director Pat Buchanan.
  • The unhappy fate of Tommy Lee Buckley, whose good-faith efforts to verify Golden Lily loot resulted in serious criminal charges being filed against him.
  • Peter discusses the mysterious Dr. Poch and his wife, two apparent Nazis who adopted the credentials of a real doctor, in order to go underground.
  • A bestseller in Indonesia alleges that Dr. Poch was actually Hitler and that he married an Indonesian woman after parting ways with Eva Braun.
  • In that context, Peter notes that the skull supposedly belonging to Hitler was revealed to have been that of a woman unrelated to Hitler. The point, here, is that–whether or not the allegation about Poch being Hitler is accurate–Hitler almost certainly appears to have escaped.
  • One of the people behind the Poch/Hitler allegation is a doctor Sosro Husodo, enigmatic in, and of, himself.
  • Years after the 1965 overthrow of Sukarno by the CIA, family member and associates of Sukarno surfaced claiming to have certificates valid for part of the enormous treasure subsumed under the Revolutionary Fund.
  • Instructive as to the treatment generally afforded those presenting such certificates is the fate of Dr. Edison Damanik.
  • Exemplifying the mysterious and open-ended nature of the inquiry into Sukarno’s Revolutionary Fund and the Axis loot that appears to have comprised much of it is the career of Indonesian weapons dealer Soeryo Goeritno, who suffered great misfortune when he attempted to probe the tangle of briars surrounding the clandestine wealth in Indonesia and the mysterious Dr. Poch.
  • The presence in Indonesia of Heinrich Harrer, the Dalai Lama’s SS tutor, who was apparently involved with a covert operation in that area.

1. After the overthrow of Sukarno and the incorporation of Indonesia into the U.S. sphere of influence, an interesting development concerned the appointment of Dr. Hilmar Bassler as German ambassador to Indonesia.

The Hitler Legacy by Peter Levenda; IBIS Press [HC]; Copyright 2014 by Peter Levenda; ISBN 978–0‑89254–210‑9; pp. 211–212.

. . . . Once that was accomplished and the dust settled, in 1968 the West German government sent Dr. Hilmar Bassler as its ambassador to Jakarta. Basssler–an exceedingly dictatorial and unpopular ambassador whose introduction to the Indonesians had been his official car running over and killing a small child–had been a member of the Gestapo and the SD (Sichereitsdienst, the Nazi secret service) during the war. Bassler had been in charge of East Asian propaganda for Ribbentrop’s Foreign Office. (In that capacity he knew Hewel personally, since Hewel had excellent fist-hand knowledge of the region. Bassler reported directly to Ribbentrop.)

. . . . Buried deep within a US military file on the Vietnam War, we find Hilmar Bassler referenced within the context of military operations involving the “strategic hamlet program” and US-FRG (Federal Republic of Germany, i.e. West Germany) relations. It would seem from this spare listing that Bassler–at that time not yet German ambassador to Indonesia–was either briefing, or being briefed, on relations with the US in the context of the Vietnam War. . . .

Sichereitsdienst agent H. Keith Thompson was the press agent for Marguerite Oswald, Oswald’s mother.

The Hitler Legacy by Peter Levenda; IBIS Press [HC]; Copyright 2014 by Peter Levenda; ISBN 978–0‑89254–210‑9; pp. 321–324.

One of the curious aspects of the entire JFK assassination controversy is the presence in Lee Harvey Oswald’s address book of several references to American Nazis as well as some rudimentary vocabulary in German. . . .

. . . . On another page is the entry that has conspiracy enthusiasts most interested. It is the address of the American Nazi Party in Hollis, Queens, New York and the name of Dan Burros (1937–1965) who was the aide to Party founder George Lincoln Rockwell. . . .

. . . . Seeing the address of the American Nazi Party as well as the name of Dan Burros in Oswald’s address book was something of a shock. How much more so to learn that Oswald’s mother was being represented by none other than H. Keith Thompson.

Thompson (b. 1922) is a well-connected and well-placed figure in Nazi circles. Born in New Jersey he nevertheless became a member of the SD (Sicherheitsdienst) in 1941 due to his support of the German-American Bund and America First. The list of his contacts in the American, Latin American and European Right is extensive, from fascist theoretician Francis Parker Yockey to George Sylvester Viereck (a colleague of Aleister Crowley during the First World War when Crowley was involved in spying on the Germans) to Otto Skorzeny, Hans-Ulrich Rudel, SS General Remer, Cuba’s President Batista, Nazi Germany’s “Last President’ Admiral Donitz, and even James Madole of the National Renaissance Party whom Thompson investigated on behalf of ODESSA to determine whether or not the organization was reliable.

Thompson was registered as an agent of Otto Remer’s Socialist Reich Party, and was also an agent for Johann von Leers’s Der Weg at the time the periodical was being published by Leers in Argentina. He was also involved in providing weapons to Batista, and arranging funding for various extreme-right causes. His contacts in ODESSA were so extensive that there exists a substantial FBI file on him.

Therefore to find him representing Marguerite Oswald–the attempted assassin’s mother–was a little startling, to say the least. When asked by a researcher what he knew of the Kennedy assassination, Thompson actually pleaded the 5th amendment and would not comment. . . .

. . . . Additionally, we have the testimony of Delphine Roberts, who worked in the office of former FBI agent Guy Banister in New Orleans (the office associated with Oswald and his phony Fair Play for Cuba operation). A white supremacist and anti-Semite herself, she knew Banister well, and claimed that he was a member of the American Nazi Party and got their material through the mail. In fact, according to a sworn statement dated February 20, 1968 before the New Orleans District Attorney’s office by former Banister investigator Jack S. Martin, Banister even arranged bail money for George Lincoln Rockwell when the latter was arrested for picketing the movie Exodus. Thus he was closer to Rockwell than we might have imagined. Did Oswald simply pick up this information around the office?

Even more suggestive is another name found in the Oswald address book, this time of Henry Warner Kloepfer. Kloepfer (1913–1982) was an important eugenicist and member of various societies devoted to genetics and a regular contributor to their publications. His wife Ruth admitted she knew the Oswalds and that she also knew Clay Shaw. In fact, in 1963 the Kloepfers were living in an apartment building in New Orleans owned by Clay Shaw. In the 1950’s Kloepfer made several trips to Cuba and later to Mexico City, and his daughter visited Moscow in 1963. . . . .

3. H. Keith Thompson has also channeled money to Pat Buchanan’s political campaigns. Buchanan was Ronald Reagan’s White House Communications Director. John O. Koehler–the man initially named as his replacement–resigned after it was disclosed that he had been in the Hitler Youth.

The Hitler Legacy by Peter Levenda; IBIS Press [HC]; Copyright 2014 by Peter Levenda; ISBN 978–0‑89254–210‑9; p. 42.

. . . . Pat Buchanan has a history of supporting extreme right individuals and groups, and the feeling has been mutual. H. Keith Thompson–an American member of the Sicherheitsdienst (the intelligence branch of the SS) and a man who swore a loyalty oath to Hitler–contributed generously to Buchanan’s political campaigns. Buchanan himself revealed that it was he who convinced then-President Reagan to lay a wreathe at the SS cemetery in Bitburg, Germany “because they were victims, too.” . . . .

4. Next, Peter briefly recaps the remarkable research of the Seagraves, who published Gold Warriors. FTR #‘s 427428446451501509688689 deal with the Seagraves’ seminal analysis of the Golden Lily program successfully implemented by the Japanese to loot Asia.

5. Exemplifying the fate of people who lacked the connections to negotiate one of the gold certificates growing out of the caches of stolen World War II wealth was Tommy Lee Buckley.

The Hitler Legacy by Peter Levenda; IBIS Press [HC]; Copyright 2014 by Peter Levenda; ISBN 978–0‑89254–210‑9; pp. 290–291.

. . . .  Another man who was not so lucky was Tommy Lee Buckley of Arizona, who took it upon himself to try to get the Damanik gold certificates authenticated and negotiated. To help finance his twenty-year mission he published a newsletter documenting his progress and promised his subscribers a percentage of the award if, and when, he was successful. It is important to know that he presented one of these certificates to the Federal Reserve Bank in Dallas in 1991; in other words, he was not attempting to defraud anyone, but was approaching the Fed to determine whether or not the certificate was genuine. He was arrested by the Secret Service at that time but soon released. He claimed that the certificates in his possession were worth trillions of US dollars, and that some had been made out to such world leaders as Saddam Hussein. The misspellings in the names of the leaders were taken as evidence that Buckley had forged the documents himself, even though the rest of the certificates were pristine.

For some reason his twenty-year attempt to have the certificates authenticated–and raising money from newsletter subscribers  to help him in this project–was considered a federal crime, and he was tried and convicted. He never went to prison, however, because he committed suicide before sentencing. That was in June of 2011, at the same time that Soeryo Goeritno was actively seeking access to the Poch documents. . . . .

6.  Against the background of Indonesia being a location of buried Golden Lily treasure, the program discusses Sukarno’s “Revolutionary Fund” and the evidentiary tributaries running into and from that entity. In addition to Golden Lily treasure, Sukarno appears to have had access to wealth made available by former Third Reich finance minister Hjalmar Schacht, who saw Indonesia as the keystone of an Islamist geopolitical barrier against the spread of communism in Asia.

  1. Absolutely amazing series of interviews.

I have heard Mr Levenda interviewed in other venues but this one is the best since Mr Emory comes so prepared and therefore the questions and lines of inquiry go right to the mark.

  2. I agree. These interviews are qualitatively tighter than at other venues, and the written synopses on the website are really excellent, very helpful, as well. A question/thought about Damanik: it would seem that, whatever his functions at Galaxy Trust, he cannot have been a real insider with respect to the gold certificates, because an insider would presumably never have presented them in the way that he did.

  3. @ Jinni and Bassface–

Thanks so much for the kind words! The lion’s share of the credit, of course, goes to Peter Levenda for writing this magnificent book.

One thing to remember is the fact that I have the freedom to explore this book in the depth that it really deserves–eight hours recorded with another due this coming Sunday.

Plus, I can do the descriptions, something not readily available to other outlets.

That is why I have labored so long–36 years on the air–to craft this outlet for anti-fascist information.

I don’t get paid for this, nor do I charge money for access to my work. Although it is a greater sacrifice than many realize, it is enabling.

Other, more conventional and/or commercial venues simply don’t have the capacity to do this.

Also, Jinni, I have never seen anything about Jan Smuts and the Third Reich and/or its underground, post World War II phase.

However, the Third Reich was intimately linked to the Apartheid regime.

Just do a search on the website, using quotation marks, on “Broederbond.”

With regard to Damanik, it is impossible to say for sure what he was about.

He may have been an insider who decided to go “rogue” and acquire some of the wealth for himself.

Or he may have been used.

You might want to address that question to Peter Levenda himself on his blog.

He certainly knows infinitely more about Damanik’s situation than I.

Lastly, Jinni and Bassface, PLEASE follow my advisory in these interviews and buy and read the book. Then, PLEASE, tell others about it, including (and especially) on the Internet. You may find it useful in that regard to reference these interviews to newcomers.

Sadly and very, very tragically, the Hitler Legacy is very much with us.

    Best,

    Dave

  4. The praise for these highly engaging interviews is quite warranted Dave. These are some of the best programs you’ve ever produced and I’ve heard almost the entire archive.

I have just received my copy of the book and scanned the index to see no reference to Shinto. I have always been under the impression that Shinto was also weaponized to motivate the Japanese. There was even a war documentary produced by Capra (I think) that explains how the war lords took Shinto over to hop up the old legends of Samurai warriors, etc. Was this omission simply a matter of these reports about Shinto at the time being exaggerated?

    Again, great series of interviews!

  5. @Ralph–

Again, thanks for the kind words. And, again, the lion’s share of the credit goes, of course, to Peter Levenda for writing the book.

I have–obviously–been working hard on these talks and feel very good about the interaction.

Peter is a genius–literally (he discusses this, briefly and obliquely, in the book.)

It is more than gratifying to experience his analysis of dynamics I’ve been doing my best to highlight for a long time.

It is looking now as though there will be two more interviews to cover the remainder of the book.

As for the absence of reference to Shinto, I think that question would be best addressed to Peter himself. I can’t give you a substantive answer.

An educated guess would be that the role of Shinto in the Japanese morale building and psychological warfare might not have been seen as part of “The Hitler Legacy.”

Although the Zen/fascist connection encompassed the work of D.T. Suzuki (among others) Karlfried Durckheim was instrumental in disseminating it.

Peter’s book is about the influence of Nazism on our world and, although he certainly discusses the Japanese Golden Lily program, Japanese fascism is not necessarily the focal point of his effort.

Again, please address this to Peter, as I can do no more than speculate.

    Best,

    Dave

  6. Hi Dave!

Thanks for the tip about the Broederbond! What made me sit up and take notice about Jan Smuts was the Guardian article about his theory of “holism” being dusted off and gussied up for our times, by a former JP Morgan functionary no less. Brown-tinged “holism” is part and parcel of the Hitler Legacy and one of the ways NS ideology survives and mutates in New Age circles, but not just there. Anne Harrington’s book on holism from Kaiser Wilhelm to Hitler is very worthwhile: http://www.amazon.de/Reenchanted-Science-Holism-Culture-Wilhelm/dp/0691050503/ref=sr_1_1?s=books-intl-de&ie=UTF8&qid=1430412757&sr=1–1&keywords=anne+harrington

I am an industrious reader of Peter’s books and recommend him just as industriously!
