This program documents important events in fascism’s rise and development around the world and through the years. After an examination of the career of German Nazi publisher Gerhard Frey (whose associations include Nazi spymaster Reinhard Gehlen and a tangential role in the JFK assassination), the discussion focuses on a 1998 congress of the AN, the Italian Fascist Party that is the direct lineal descendant of and heir to Mussolini’s blackshirts. Present at the congress were Republican Representative Bob Young and a representative of the Israeli Likud Party. Other program highlights include: Herbert Hoover’s attempt to bring Marine Corps General Smedley Butler before a court martial for “slandering” Mussolini (Butler was a two-time winner of the Congressional Medal of Honor); fascist antecedents to important elements of both the Zionist movement and the Palestinian National Movement (including links to Yasser Arafat and the political milieu of Benjamin Netanyahu); the rise of a virulently anti-Semitic form of fascism in Russia and its alarming acceptance by the Russian authorities: the similarity between the ideology and political rhetoric of the groups mentioned above and the right wing of the Republican Party.
