FTR#1238 This program was recorded in one, 60-minute segment.

Introduction: This program continues our coverage of the Ukraine war. The title comes from the late, brilliant political comedian Mort Sahl’s 1976 autobiography HeartlandOne of New Orleans DA Jim Garrison’s investigation of the assassination of the JFK.

In Consortium News, Joe Lauria presents Pentagon intelligence which, like the information presented by Bill Arkin in the Newsweek piece we covered in FTR#1237, lays out information fundamentally in contrast to what De Bretton-Gordon has voiced and which Joe Biden has taken at face value.

” . . . . Reuters reported: ‘The United States has not yet seen any concrete indications of an imminent Russian chemical or biological weapons attack in Ukraine but is closely monitoring streams of intelligence for them, a senior U.S. defense official said.’ It quoted the Pentagon official as saying, ‘There’s no indication that there’s something imminent in that regard right now.’. . .”

Hamish de Bretton Gordon – the same figure who was warning the world about Russian forces releasing COVID-Ebola from a Ukrainian biolab – is now warning of impending Russian chemical attacks. And when it comes to making bogus claims about chemical attacks, de Bretton Gordon isn’t lacking in experience, having set the table for false-flag chemical attacks in Syria: “ . . . . Other forms of evidence were also collected on-the-ground by de Bretton-Gordon, and provided to a number of official investigations into chemical attacks. In at least one instance – an OPCW/UN Joint Investigative Mechanism (JIM) probe into a purported chemical strike in Talmenes, April 2014 – videos submitted by CBRN Taskforce, a shady organization he founded in Aleppo, were found to show clear signs of falsification. . . .”

Oleh Tihanybok, leader of the OUN/B successor organization Svoboda, originally organized by Andriy Parubiy.

Joe Biden has taken the inflammatory, weaponized rhetoric and propaganda disseminated by the likes of Hamish de Bretton-Gordon and obedient media outlets at face value.

His uncritical embrace of this apocalyptic verbiage sets the stage for World War III.

Consummately ironic is Biden’s use of the terms “cynical” and “obscene” in his dismissal of the validity of Putin’s stated war goal of “De-Nazification.”

As will be detailed in forthcoming programs and posts, then Vice-President Joe Biden was involved with the networking through which the Svoboda organization and Andriy Parubiy effected the Maidan coup.

As the point man in U.S.-Ukrainian relations, Biden bears great responsibility for the ascent of the Nazi elements dominant in contemporary Ukraine.

Igor Kolomoisky is the oligarch who: Was the primary financier of Zelensky’s presidential campaign; Owned the television network on which Zelensky developed his public persona—leading to his ascent to the presidency of Ukraine; Was a primary financier of the Azov Battalion, one of the most important Nazi units in the Ukrainian military and the parent organization of the National Druzhyna Militia (which served as election monitors for Zelensky’s ballot run).

Kolomoisky also maintained a controlling interest in Burisma, the natural gas company on which Hunter Biden served as a director.

Modern Times: Celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the 14th Waffen SS Division in Lviv, Ukraine in summer of 2018. THIS is what lurks beneath the thin facade of Zelensky’s democracy.

It was his position as a director of Burisma that was the foundation of his development of an apparent U.S./Ukrainian biological warfare program, involving Pentagon financing and heavily overlapping the elements figuring in Mr. Emory’s “Oswald Institute of Virology” expose.

Although heavily spun–as would be expected from a Daily Mail article–our concluding story not only has important implications for the war in Ukraine, but also resonates with our long series on “The Oswald Institute of Virology.”

We note that there are significant connections between the agency overseeing the Ukrainian projects and institutions implicated in the apparent “bio-skullduggery” surrounding the U.S. biological warfare gambit involving what Mr. Emory has termed “The Oswald Institute of Virology.” This is discussed in: FTR#‘s 1157–1159, 1170, 1183 through 1193, and 1215.

The essence of the “Oswald Institute of Virology” gambit concerns the DTRA and Pentagon funding of bat-borne coronavirus research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology, much of it through Peter Daszak’s EcoHealth Alliance. Once the research was complete, it resulted in publication which included the genome of the bat viruses being researched. Using technology discussed below, the viruses were then synthesized from scratch and population groups were vectored with the same viral strains being researched by the WIV.

It turns out that Hunter Biden–a member of the board of directors at Burisma–was instrumental in securing funding for EcoHealth Alliance partner Metabiota, described in a screen shot of an e‑mail as being “to the DOA what Palantir is to CIA.”

Both EcoHealth Alliance and Metabiota have been involved with bat-borne coronavirus at the WIV.

Note that–” . . . . ‘His [Hunter Biden’s] father was the Vice President of the United States and in charge of relations with Ukraine.’ . . .”

Previously we have noted then Vice-President Joe Biden’s close relationship with U.S. Ambassador Geoffrey Pyatt and Ukrainaian fascist Andriy Parubiy during the Maidan coup, which centered on false-flag sniper killings from buildings controlled by Svoboda (formerly the Social National Party of Ukraine, founded by Parubiy.)

“Pentagon Drops Truth Bomb to Stave Off War with Russia” by Joe Lauria; Consortium News; 3/23/2022.

 . . . . No Evidence of Chemicals

The second article directly undermines Biden’s dramatic warning about a false flag chemical attack. Reuters reported: “The United States has not yet seen any concrete indications of an imminent Russian chemical or biological weapons attack in Ukraine but is closely monitoring streams of intelligence for them, a senior U.S. defense official said.”

It quoted the Pentagon official as saying, “There’s no indication that there’s something imminent in that regard right now.” Neither The New York Times nor The Washington Post published the Reuters article, which appeared in the more obscure U.S. News and World Report.

Never let the facts get in the way of a good story — even if it could lead to the most devastating consequences in history.

2. Hamish de Bretton Gordon – the same figure who was warning the world about Russian forces releasing COVID-Ebola from a Ukrainian biolab – is now warning of impending Russian chemical attacks. And when it comes to making bogus claims about chemical attacks, de Bretton Gordon isn’t lacking in experience, having set the table for false-flag chemical attacks in Syria:

  • “ . . . . Almost as soon as Obama implemented his ill-fated “red line” policy vowing an American military response if the Syrian army attacked the Western-backed opposition with chemical weapons, Al Qaeda-aligned opposition factions came forth with claims of mass casualty sarin and chlorine bombings of civilians. The result was a series of US-UK missile strikes on Damascus and a prolonged crisis that nearly triggered the kind of disastrous regime change war that had destabilized Iraq and Libya. . . .”
  • “ . . . . In each major chemical weapons event, signs of staging and deception by the armed Syrian opposition were present. As a former US ambassador in the Middle East told journalist Charles Glass, ‘The ‘red line’ was an open invitation to a false-flag operation.’. . .”
  • “ . . . . Elements of deception were especially clear in the April 7, 2018 incident in the city of Douma, when an anti-government militia on the brink of defeat claimed civilians had been massacred in a chlorine attack by the Syrian army. . . .”
  • “ . . . . Veteran inspectors from the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) found no evidence that the Syrian army had carried out any such attack, however, suggesting the entire incident had been staged to trigger Western intervention. Their report was subsequently censored by organization management, and the inspectors were subjected to a campaign of smears and intimidation. . . .”
  • “ . . . . Throughout the Syrian conflict, a self-proclaimed ‘chemical warrior’ named Hamish de Bretton-Gordon was intimately involved in numerous chemical weapons deceptions that sustained the war and ratcheted up pressure for Western military intervention. . . . .”
  • “ . . . . This February 24, just moments after Russia’s military entered Ukraine, de Bretton-Gordon surfaced again in British media to claim that Russia was preparing a chemical attack on Ukrainian civilians. He has since demanded that Ukrainians be provided with a guide he wrote called, ‘How To Survive A Chemical Attack.’ . . . .”
  • “ . . . . Within just three hours, he [Bretton-Gordon] had a fiery op-edprepared for The Guardian, demanding the US and Europe ‘show their steel in the face of Putin’s aggression.’ Warning that Vladimir Putin was “much more willing to face off with NATO” than before, de Bretton-Gordon charged that the West ‘stood back and watched in Syria,’ and ‘it must not do the same in Ukraine.’ . . . .”
  • “ . . . . ‘Syria shows what happens when you turn a blind eye and are too heavily influenced by peaceniks,’ de Bretton-Gordon fulminated. ‘Those of us involved in interventions in Iraq and Afghanistan over the past 30 years…we look at Syria and know we should have done better. That knowledge should inform our response to Putin’s aggression now.’ . . . .”
  • “ . . . . In reality, Washington and its allies did not stand back and watch in Syria; it waged a decade-long proxy war employing jihadist paramilitaries and airstrikes on Damascus, then occupied oil-producing portions of the country and subjected its citizens to crippling sanctions, which to this day deprive them of food, electricity and vital medical supplies . . . .”
  • “ . . . . Of all people, de Bretton-Gordon – whose Twitter profile once identified him as a member of 77th Brigade, the British Army’s official psychological warfare division– is uniquely placed to know of these horrors. After all, he played a pivotal role in promoting and extending the dirty war through the management of information surrounding chemical weapons incidents. . . .”
  • “ . . . . As The Grayzone has revealed, the involvement of de Bretton-Gordon in the Syrian conflict dates back to at least 2013, when by his own admission he was engagedin a covert effort to smuggle soil samples out of the opposition-occupied areas. This work would have inevitably placed him in extremely close quarters with jihadist elements raking in Western funding while benefiting from NATO training and weapons. . . .”
  • “ . . . . Contemporary media reports reveal the UK’s MI6 was engaged in a sample-gathering effort in the country at the very time de Bretton-Gordon was inside Syria, strongly suggesting his linkage to the foreign intelligence agency. One article makes abundantly clear the purpose of the soil-sample exercise was to push the US into intervening by proving government culpability for alleged chemical weapons attacks. . . .”
  • “ . . . . Other forms of evidence were also collected on-the-ground by de Bretton-Gordon, and provided to a number of official investigations into chemical attacks. • “ . . . . On more than one occasion, however, de Bretton-Gordon has directly involved Western journalists in MI6’s soil gathering efforts. For instance, during a 2014 podcast interview with Wilton Park, an NGO funded by the UK Foreign Officede Bretton-Gordon boastedof his responsibility for a story in the Times of London alleging a Syrian chemical attack in the town of Sheikh al-Maqsood. . . .”
  • “ . . . . ‘In March last year there was a reported sarin attack in Sheikh al-Maqsood and I helped the Times – chap called Anthony Lloyd who very sadly got shot two weeks ago – to cover this story and tried to get samples to the UK for analysis … I won’t go into the details of that,’ he recalled. . . .”
  • “ . . . . Then-Prime Minister David Cameron invokedthe Sheikh al-Maqsood incident to increase pressure on Damascus, citing ‘the picture as described to me by the Joint Intelligence Committee’ as the basis for his assertion of a chemical attack against the town by the Syrian army. . . .”
  • “ . . . . The most dangerous claims advanced by Ukrainian propagandists have been reinforced by the supposed authority of de Bretton-Gordon, who has arguedthat Russian chemical strikes were absolutely inevitable, based his prediction on his opinion that Moscow ‘has no morals or scruples.’ . . . .”
  • “ . . . . The self-styled chemical weapons expert has even cautioned that Putin could deploy nuclear weaponsor create a pandemic ‘more deadly than Covid’ with an Ebola weapon. He has further speculated that Russian forces may unleash a deadly virus seized from one of several Pentagon-funded biolabs in Ukraine, then blame it on the US. . . .”
  • “ . . . . In a typical media appearance, on March 10th, de Bretton Gordon told London’s LBC radio show that ‘nothing is off the table at this stage.’ Among the horrors he forecast was the use of white phosphorous ‘to set towns and cities on fire.’. . .”
  • “ . . . . Now, de Bretton-Gordon has resurfaced at the center of the aggressive push for escalation with a nuclear armed Russia. If his role in Syria is any guide, a series of cynical deceptions could be on the way. . . .”

“British intelligence operative’s involvement in Ukraine crisis signals false flag attacks ahead” by Kit Klarenberg; The Grayzone; 03/24/2022

Shadowy UK intel figure Hamish de Bretton-Gordon was at the forefront of chemical weapons deceptions in Syria. Now in Ukraine, he’s up to his old tricks again.

With Washington and its NATO allies forced to watch from the sidelines as Russia’s military advances across Eastern Ukraine and encircles Kiev, US and British officials have resorted to a troubling tactic that could trigger a massive escalation. Following similar claims by his Secretary of State and ambassador the United Nations, US President Joseph Biden has declared that Russia will pay a “severe price” if it uses chemical weapons in Ukraine.

The warnings emanating from the Biden administration contain chilling echoes of those issued by the administration of President Barack Obama throughout the US-led dirty war on Syria.

In each major chemical weapons event, signs of staging and deception by the armed Syrian opposition were present. As a former US ambassador in the Middle East told journalist Charles Glass, “The ‘red line’ was an open invitation to a false-flag operation.”

Elements of deception were especially clear in the April 7, 2018 incident in the city of Douma, when an anti-government militia on the brink of defeat claimed civilians had been massacred in a chlorine attack by the Syrian army.

Throughout the Syrian conflict, a self-proclaimed “chemical warrior” named Hamish de Bretton-Gordon was intimately involved in numerous chemical weapons deceptions that sustained the war and ratcheted up pressure for Western military intervention.

This February 24, just moments after Russia’s military entered Ukraine, de Bretton-Gordon surfaced again in British media to claim that Russia was preparing a chemical attack on Ukrainian civilians. He has since demanded that Ukrainians be provided with a guide he wrote called, “How To Survive A Chemical Attack.”

How to Survive a Chemical or Biological Attack – this is Free – please disseminate as widely as possible to civilians in #Ukraine & surrounding countries https://t.co/tkV4Nb3PaO— Hamish DBG (@HamishDBG) March 22, 2022

Hours after war erupts, a “chemical warrior” demands Western escalation

Following months of fevered speculation about an impending Russian invasion of Ukraine, when it finally came to pass on the early morning of February 24th, most were caught entirely by surprise. Media outlets and pundits scrambled to get their stories straight, while Western leaders rushed to construct a cohesive ‘response’.

By contrast, Hamish de Bretton-Gordon, a British army veteran identified by UK media as a “former spy,” was in no such muddle. Within just three hours, he had a fiery op-ed prepared for The Guardian, demanding the US and Europe “show their steel in the face of Putin’s aggression.” Warning that Vladimir Putin was “much more willing to face off with NATO” than before, de Bretton-Gordon charged that the West “stood back and watched in Syria,” and “it must not do the same in Ukraine.”

“Syria shows what happens when you turn a blind eye and are too heavily influenced by peaceniks,” de Bretton-Gordon fulminated. “Those of us involved in interventions in Iraq and Afghanistan over the past 30 years…we look at Syria and know we should have done better. That knowledge should inform our response to Putin’s aggression now.”

In reality, Washington and its allies did not stand back and watch in Syria; it waged a decade-long proxy war employing jihadist paramilitaries and airstrikes on Damascus, then occupied oil-producing portions of the country and subjected its citizens to crippling sanctions, which to this day deprive them of food, electricity and vital medical supplies.

Of all people, de Bretton-Gordon – whose Twitter profile once identified him as a member of 77th Brigade, the British Army’s official psychological warfare division – is uniquely placed to know of these horrors. After all, he played a pivotal role in promoting and extending the dirty war through the management of information surrounding chemical weapons incidents.

Manipulation, absurdities and obvious fraud

As The Grayzone has revealed, the involvement of de Bretton-Gordon in the Syrian conflict dates back to at least 2013, when by his own admission he was engaged in a covert effort to smuggle soil samples out of the opposition-occupied areas. This work would have inevitably placed him in extremely close quarters with jihadist elements raking in Western funding while benefiting from NATO training and weapons.

Contemporary media reports reveal the UK’s MI6 was engaged in a sample-gathering effort in the country at the very time time de Bretton-Gordon was inside Syria, strongly suggesting his linkage to the foreign intelligence agency. One article makes abundantly clear the purpose of the soil-sample exercise was to push the US into intervening by proving government culpability for alleged chemical weapons attacks.

De Bretton-Gordon threw his chemical weapons expertise into further doubt when he told British media that any common refrigerator could be transformed into a chemical weapon, falsely claiming that R22 refrigerant cylinders contained material for improvised chlorine bombs. “Somebody could go to a waste site where people chuck away fridges [in the UK] and get a whole bunch of those things and blow them up,” the supposed arms specialist claimed.

De Bretton Gordon has gone as far as claiming to a British tabloid that Russia could deploy missiles and hand grenades containing the highly deadly Soviet-era chemical agent Novichok “in any future war with the West.”

Such absurd commentary and subterfuge has done nothing to dent de Bretton-Gordon’s credibility, however. His mainstream profile has only grown over time, with outlets invariably presenting him as a courageous human rights defender risking his life to train local doctors and rescue workers.

On more than one occasion, however, de Bretton-Gordon has directly involved Western journalists in MI6’s soil gathering efforts. For instance, during a 2014 podcast interview with Wilton Park, an NGO funded by the UK Foreign Officede Bretton-Gordon boasted of his responsibility for a story in the Times of London alleging a Syrian chemical attack in the town of Sheikh al-Maqsood.

“In March last year there was a reported sarin attack in Sheikh al-Maqsood and I helped the Times – chap called Anthony Lloyd who very sadly got shot two weeks ago – to cover this story and tried to get samples to the UK for analysis … I won’t go into the details of that,” he recalled.

Then-Prime Minister David Cameron invoked the Sheikh al-Maqsood incident to increase pressure on Damascus, citing “the picture as described to me by the Joint Intelligence Committee” as the basis for his assertion of a chemical attack against the town by the Syrian army.

Months before war, US trains Ukrainians in the threat of “targeted weapons of mass destruction attacks”

Back in May 2021, the State Department announced that Washington had conducted a “virtual training exercise” with “partners” in Kiev, including domestic security services, law enforcement, and first responders, to “identify, respond to, and investigate assassinations involving weapons of mass destruction,” due to “recent events in Europe” highlighting “the real threat of government-sanctioned, targeted weapons of mass destruction attacks.”

Along the way, Ukrainians were tutored in “[identifying] the medical symptoms that indicate WMD material use, the attack cycle involved in WMD assassination attempts, and the specific measures that enable safe and secure detection and response to WMD incidents.”

Quite why this instruction was given at this particular time is unclear, as was the “recent events in Europe” to which the press release referred. Perhaps the State Department was alluding to the alleged novichok poisoning of the Russian opposition figure Alexei Navalny in August 2020. On what grounds that failed assassination necessitated a grand, multi-agency training exercise in dealing with “targeted WMD attacks” is anyone’s guess.

Whatever the purpose of the US training program was, Ukrainian security personnel can now claim they have the training to identify the precise “medical symptoms that indicate WMD material.”

This is significant, because ever since the conflict began, Kiev has exhibited an endless enthusiasm for lying, having distorted or even outright concocted events and facts whole-cloth to advance its objectives on countless occasions.

The most dangerous claims advanced by Ukrainian propagandists have been reinforced by the supposed authority of de Bretton-Gordon, who has argued that Russian chemical strikes were absolutely inevitable, based his prediction on his opinion that Moscow “has no morals or scruples.”

The self-styled chemical weapons expert has even cautioned that Putin could deploy nuclear weapons or create a pandemic “more deadly than Covid” with an Ebola weapon. He has further speculated that Russian forces may unleash a deadly virus seized from one of several Pentagon-funded biolabs in Ukraine, then blame it on the US.

From Syria to Ukraine, it is happening again

In a typical media appearance, on March 10th, de Bretton Gordon told London’s LBC radio show that “nothing is off the table at this stage.” Among the horrors he forecast was the use of white phosphorous “to set towns and cities on fire.”

Justifying his certainty, de Bretton-Gordon forcefully asserted, “the only way to take a large city or town ultimately is to use chemical weapons.” He pointed to Syria to prove his point – but without referencing his own pivotal role in escalating that conflict through the manipulation of evidence and scientifically bereft fear-mongering in the media.

Now, de Bretton-Gordon has resurfaced at the center of the aggressive push for escalation with a nuclear armed Russia. If his role in Syria is any guide, a series of cynical deceptions could be on the way.

3. Joe Biden has taken the inflammatory, weaponized rhetoric and propaganda disseminated by the likes of Hamish de Bretton-Gordon and obedient media outlets at face value.

His uncritical embrace of this apocalyptic verbiage sets the stage for World War III.

  • “ . . . . Mr Biden replied: “It would trigger a response in kind, whether or not, you’re asking whether Nato would cross, we’d make that decision at the time.”
  • “ . . . . Nato has said it will provide Ukraine with equipment to protect against chemical, biological, radiological as well as nuclear weapons. Mr Biden said before he left on his European trip that there was a ‘real threat’ of Russia using chemical weapons. The Kremlin has previously ordered the use of chemical weapons in Syria, and has poisoned critics such as Alexei Navalny and former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter. . . .”

“Joe Biden says Nato would respond ‘in kind’ to Russian use of chemical weapons” by Graeme Massie; The Independent; 03/24/2022

Joe Biden says that Nato would respond “in kind” if Vladimir Putin used chemical weapons in Ukraine.

The president spoke after a day of summits in Belgium with Nato allies, the European Union and G7 partners.

Mr Biden was asked if chemical weapons were used in Ukraine, “would that trigger a military response from Nato”.

Mr Biden replied: “It would trigger a response in kind, whether or not, you’re asking whether Nato would cross, we’d make that decision at the time.”

During the meetings Mr Biden also said he supported expelling Russia from the G20 economic group, and that if it is not possible Ukraine should be able to attend meetings.

. . . . Nato has said it will provide Ukraine with equipment to protect against chemical, biological, radiological as well as nuclear weapons.

Mr Biden said before he left on his European trip that there was a “real threat” of Russia using chemical weapons.

The Kremlin has previously ordered the use of chemical weapons in Syria, and has poisoned critics such as Alexei Navalny and former Russian spy Sergei Skripal and his daughter.

“Rallying Allies, Biden Says Putin ‘Cannot Remain in Power’ ” by Michael D. Shear, David E. Sanger, Michael Levenson; The New York Times; 3/27/2022.

. . . . While declaring that “the Russian people are not our enemy,” Mr. Biden unleashed an angry tirade against Mr. Putin’s claim that the invasion of Ukraine was intended to “de-Nazify” the country. Mr. Biden called that justification “a lie,” noting that President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine is Jewish and that his father’s family was killed in the Holocaust.

“It’s just cynical,” Mr. Biden said. “He knows that. And it’s also obscene.”. . .

It was his position as a director of Burisma that was the foundation of his development of an apparent U.S./Ukrainian biological warfare program, involving Pentagon financing and heavily overlapping the elements figuring in Mr. Emory’s “Oswald Institute of Virology” expose.

“Businessmen accused of Ukraine money laundering gave millions to New York charities by Isabel Vincent and Kathianne Boniello; The New York Post, 3/6/2021.

. . . Kolomoisky, who built his fortune during the lawless years immediately following the fall of the Soviet Union, reportedly has a controlling interest in Burisma, the Ukrainian oil and gas company which put President Biden’s son, Hunter, on its board of directors in 2014 at a salary of $50,000 per month. . . .

6. Although heavily spun–as would be expected from a Daily Mail article–this story not only has important implications for the war in Ukraine, but also resonates with our long series on “The Oswald Institute of Virology.”

Chinese scientists performed gain of function research on coronaviruses at the WIV, working alongside a US-backed organization EcoHealth Alliance that has since drawn intense scrutiny over its coronavirus research since the COVID-19 pandemic. Researchers from the Wuhan institute, Metabiota and EcoHealth Alliance published a study together in 2014 on infectious diseases from bats in China, which notes that tests were performed at the WIV. “EXCLUSIVE: Hunter Biden DID help secure millions in funding for US contractor in Ukraine specializing in deadly pathogen research, laptop emails reveal, raising more questions about the disgraced son of then vice president” by JOSH BOSWELL; Daily Mail [UK]; 3/25/2022.

The Russian government held a press conference Thursday claiming that Hunter Biden helped finance a US military ‘bioweapons’ research program in Ukraine

However the allegations were branded a brazen propaganda ploy to justify president Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine and sow discord in the US

But emails and correspondence obtained by DailyMail.com from Hunter’s abandoned laptop show the claims may well be true

The emails show Hunter helped secure millions of dollars of funding for Metabiota, a Department of Defense contractor specializing in research on pandemic-causing diseases

He also introduced Metabiota to an allegedly corrupt Ukrainian gas firm, Burisma, for a ‘science project’ involving high biosecurity level labs in Ukraine

The president’s son and his colleagues invested $500,000 in Metabiota through their firm Rosemont Seneca Technology Partners

They raised several million dollars of funding for the company from investment giants including Goldman Sachs

Moscow’s claim that Hunter Biden helped finance a US military ‘bioweapons’ research program in Ukraine is at least partially true, according to new emails obtained exclusively by DailyMail.com.

The commander of the Russian Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Protection Forces, claimed there was a ‘scheme of interaction between US government agencies and Ukrainian biological objects’ and pointed to the ‘financing of such activities by structures close to the current US leadership, in particular the investment fund Rosemont Seneca, which is headed by Hunter Biden.’

Intelligence experts say the Russian military leader’s allegations were a brazen propaganda ploy to justify president Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine and sow discord in the US.

But emails from Hunter’s abandoned laptop show he helped secure millions of dollars of funding for Metabiota, a Department of Defense contractor specializing in research on pandemic-causing diseases that could be used as bioweapons.

He also introduced Metabiota to an allegedly corrupt Ukrainian gas firm, Burisma, for a ‘science project’ involving high biosecurity level labs in Ukraine.

And although Metabiota is ostensibly a medical data company, its vice president emailed Hunter in 2014 describing how they could ‘assert Ukraine’s cultural and economic independence from Russia’ – an unusual goal for a biotech firm.

Emails and defense contract data reviewed by DailyMail.com suggest that Hunter had a prominent role in making sure Metabiota was able to conduct its pathogen research just a few hundred miles from the border with Russia.

The project turned into a national security liability for Ukraine when Russian forces invaded the country last month.

Metabiota has worked in Ukraine for Black & Veatch, a US defense contractor with deep ties to military intelligence agencies, which built secure labs in Ukraine that analyzed killer diseases and bioweapons.

Earlier this month US officials warned congress that ‘Russian forces may be seeking to gain control’ of these ‘biological research facilities’, prompting fears that deadly and even engineered pathogens could fall into Russian hands.

Hunter and his colleagues at his investment firm Rosemont Seneca Technology Partners (RSTP) routinely raised millions of dollars for technology companies, hoping the firms would take off and make them all fortunes.

Metabiota was one of those firms. Emails between Hunter and his colleagues excitedly discuss how the company’s monitoring of medical data could become an essential tool for governments and companies looking to spot outbreaks of infectious diseases.

The president’s son and his colleagues invested $500,000 in Metabiota through their firm Rosemont Seneca Technology Partners.

They raised several million dollars of funding for the company from investment giants including Goldman Sachs.

But emails show Hunter was also particularly involved in Metabiota’s operations in Ukraine.

Hunter’s pitches to investors claimed that they not only organized funding for the firm, they also helped it ‘get new customers’ including ‘government agencies in case of Metabiota’.

He and his business partner Eric Schwerin even discussed subletting their office space to the firm in April 2014, their emails reveal.

That month, Metabiota vice president Mary Guttieri wrote a memo to Hunter outlining how they could ‘assert Ukraine’s cultural and economic independence from Russia’.

‘Thanks so much for taking time out of your intense schedule to meet with Kathy [Dimeo, Metabiota executive] and I on Tuesday. We very much enjoyed our discussion,’ Guttieri wrote.

‘As promised, I’ve prepared the attached memo, which provides an overview of Metabiota, our engagement in Ukraine, and how we can potentially leverage our team, networks, and concepts to assert Ukraine’s cultural and economic independence from Russia and continued integration into Western society.’

Former senior CIA officer Sam Faddis, who has reviewed emails on Hunter’s laptop, told DailyMail.com that the offer to help assert Ukraine’s independence was odd for a biotech executive.

‘It raises the question, what is the real purpose of this venture? It’s very odd,’ he said.

Guttieri had a leading role in Metabiota’s Ukraine operations, meeting with other company executives and US and Ukrainian military officials in October 2016 to discuss ‘cooperation in surveillance and prevention of especially dangerous infectious diseases, including zoonotic diseases in Ukraine and neighboring countries’ according to a 2016 report by the Science and Technology Center in Ukraine.

At the time, Hunter was serving as a board member of Ukrainian gas firm Burisma, owned by former top government official and allegedly corrupt billionaire Mikolay Zlochevsky.

Four days after Guttieri’s April 2014 email, Burisma executive Vadym Pozharskyi wrote to Hunter revealing that the then-Vice President’s son had pitched a ‘science project’ involving Burisma and Metabiota in Ukraine.

‘Please find few initial points to be discussed for the purposes of analyzing the potential of this as you called, ‘Science Ukraine’ project,’ Pozharskyi wrote.

‘As I understand the Metabiota was a subcontract to principal contactor of the DoD B&V [Black & Veatch].

‘What kind of partnership Metabiota is looking for in Ukraine? From potential non-governmental player in Kiev? Rebuilt the ties with respective ministries in Ukraine, and on the basis of that reinstate the financing from the B&V? Or they look for partnership in managing projects in Ukraine, PR with Government institutions here, financing of the projects?’

Faddis told DailyMail.com that the attempt to get Metabiota to form a partnership with Burisma was a perplexing and worrying revelation.

‘His father was the Vice President of the United States and in charge of relations with Ukraine. So why was Hunter not only on the board of a suspect Ukrainian gas firm, but also hooked them up with a company working on bioweapons research?’ Faddis said.

‘It’s an obvious Russian propaganda attempt to take advantage of this. But it doesn’t change the fact that there does seem to be something that needs to be explored here.

‘The DoD position is that there’s nothing nefarious here, this is pandemic early warning research. We don’t know for sure that’s all that was going on.

‘But the question still remains: why is Hunter Biden in the middle of all this? Why is the disgraced son of the vice president at the heart of this – the guy with no discernible skills and a cocaine habit.’

Pozharsky said in his email to Hunter that he had encountered such biological research projects before in his former job as a Ukrainian government official, and claimed that B&V worked on ‘similar or the same projects’ as the proposed contract for Metabiota.

Government spending records show the Department of Defense awarded an $18.4million contract to Metabiota between February 2014 and November 2016, with $307,091 earmarked for ‘Ukraine research projects’.

The US Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) also commissioned B&V to build a Biological Safety Level 3 laboratory in Odessa, Ukraine in 2010, which ‘provided enhanced equipment and training to effectively, safely and securely identify especially dangerous pathogens’ according to a company press release.

Such labs are used to ‘study infectious agents or toxins that may be transmitted through the air and cause potentially lethal infections,’ the US Department of Health and Human Services says.

B&V was awarded a further five-year $85million contract in 2012.

Emails and defense contract data reviewed by DailyMail.com suggest that Hunter had a prominent role in making sure Metabiota was able to conduct its pathogen research just a few hundred miles from the border with Russia.

In another sign of the deep ties between Metabiota and the Department of Defense, Hunter’s RSTP business partner Rob Walker said he would ‘have a friend reach out to DoD on the down low’, in order to prove the company’s bona fides to top prospective investors Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley in October 2014.

RSTP was a subsidiary of Rosemont Capital, an investment company founded by Hunter and former Secretary of State John Kerry’s stepson Chris Heinz in 2009.

Metabiota also has close ties to the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV), suspected to be the source of the COVID-19 outbreak.

WIV was a hotspot for controversial ‘gain of function’ research that can create super-strength viruses.

Shi Zhengli, the WIV Director of the Center for Emerging Infectious Diseases who became dubbed the ‘bat lady’ for her central role in bat coronavirus research at the lab, was a contributor to the paper.

Metabiota has been an official partner of EcoHealth Alliance since 2014, according to its website.
