Incred­i­bly, an ini­tial autop­sy con­duct­ed by the local med­ical exam­in­er had missed the gun shot wound. Dr. Spitz of Macomb Coun­ty blames anti­quat­ed equip­ment for miss­ing the gun shot wound in his first exam­i­na­tion, and also points to how bad­ly decom­posed the body.
