COMMENT: On Monday, September 28, Dave presented is fifth and final set of three talks for September.
In what might be termed “Auschwitz Nation,” Mr. Emory read the darkly moving account of life in Auschwitz by the late Primo Levi.
Recounting how responses were provided to the new arrivals at Auschwitz by SS men using subdued, measured tones, the inmates found their words reassuring.
When asked by newly arrived inmates about taking their luggage with them, they were told: “Luggage afterwards.” When they asked about staying with their wives, they were told: “Together again afterwards.” When mothers expressed the desire to stay with their young children, they were told: “Good, good, go with children.”
The arrivals never got their luggage, never reunited with their wives and the mothers who went with their children shared the fate of the other old and/or frail inmates and young children.
All were gassed at Birkenau straight away.
Mr. Emory noted the powerful Wall Street figures who created Auschwitz, especially the Bush family. Those who created the camp were at the epicenter of 20th and 21st century American politics, industry and finance.
After noting the devastating effect of Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill on health care, Mr. Emory noted Trump’s creation of an “AI Force” and dire warnings from AI critics about what the technologies portend.
Discussion and Analysis Includes: A lawsuit by surviving Auschwitz inmates arguing that the extermination of 400,000 Hungarian Jews could have been prevented by U.S. military action which was apparently blocked by powerful Wall Street actors; Warnings by AI expert Gary Marcus about OpenAI and Sam Altman’s apparent lack of proper restraint; Marcus’ alarm about the latest AI models being released; Trump allies and proponents’ advocacy of AI secrecy, combined with a “full-speed-ahead” development dynamic; White House Office of Science and Technology director Michael Kratsios and his strong links with the Peter Thiel political and financial machine; George W. Bush’s Harken Energy; The employment of Primo Levi at an I.G. Farben plant designed to produce synthetic rubber; Review of the Jasco Agreement between I.G. Farben, Standard Oil and Dupont that gave the Germans the technology to produce Buna (synthetic rubber).
