COMMENT: On Friday, October 2nd, Dave presented his first set of three Patreon talks for October.
Focusing on the surreal attitude and resulting manifestations of Pete Hegseth’s Department of War, DOGE graduate Gavin Kliger’s primary position as the Pentagon’s “AI guy,” as well as OpenAI’s and the Pentagon’s “less than candid” responses to an FOIA suit seeking information about requirements for AI’s attached to weapons systems, the talks presage what may be an accidental World War III.
An AI “hallucination” presided over by military personnel almost precipitated an incident which could have resulted in World War III between the U.S. and China. Mistakenly identifying the cargo of a Chinese ship as technological components for a nuclear weapon, the AI and human error set in motion military plans to board and (if necessary) fire on the Chinese ship.
Boarding and/or seizing a flagged-vessel of another country is an act of war.
Younger military personnel are more likely to be familiar with, and use, AI’s.
The results of the FOIA suit indicate that, indeed, the Pentagon’s arrangements with OpenAI provide minimum safeguards over AI’s governing weapons systems.
After discussing the fact that the humans managing AI systems are the parties responsible for malfeasance, the third talk delves into frightening aspects of Donald Trump’s attitude and behavior toward war.
Discussion and Analysis Includes: Kliger’s sociopathic political behavior while working for DOGE; Kliger’s affinity for Nazi and racist social media content; The lax attitude of many toward the possibility of nuclear war; Hegseth’s view that AI’s should be developed as fast as possible, disregarding fundamental safety factors; The effect of vast amounts of Pentagon money on AI developers; Evasive responses from Pentagon and AI representatives with regard to FOIA queries about the Department of War’s contracts with that firm; The hype surrounding “The AI Apocalypse” and the immediate, apocalyptic danger of AI-equipped weapons systems ending humanity; The contrast between Chinese President Xi Jinping’s attitude that AI’s must always be governed by human operators and the U.S. view of “Damn the Guardrails, Full Speed Ahead.”
