COMMENT: On July 28, Dave gave the last monthly talk for July. Supplementing a talk by the brilliant Hal Sanderson about fascism and the World Cup, this presentation adds depth and confirmation to many of the lines of inquiry presented in Hal’s discourse.

No one has done more to further soccer (what the rest of the world calls football) in the U.S. than Lamar Hunt. Son of H.L. Hunt and associated with Jack Ruby and Jim Braden (aka Eugene Hale Brading), Lamar Hunt’s name crops up in the context of the JFK assassination.

He founded Major League Soccer and helped craft Kansas City into a soccer/football epicenter.

From Trump’s successful pressure on the head of FIFA to reverse the Red Card suspension of the American team’s top scorer to an FBI investigation of the Argentine Football Association’s funneling of $300 million into Miami, the marrow-deep corruption of FIFA is inescapable.

The Argentine team was a major beneficiary of that apparent corruption, right down to their overt breaking of FIFA rules by displaying a banner asserting that the Falkland Islands (Malvinas to the Argentines).

The German firm Adidas was (arguably) the main beneficiary of the World Cup proceedings, helping to further the building of their sports empire, under the stewardship of Bjorn Gulden, who came to Adidas from Puma.

Points of Discussion and Analysis Include: The CIA/Secret Service background to the security director for the American World Cup team Frank Pannell; The suspension of the team’s manager Sam Zapatka and Pannell (possibly in connection with Trump’s pressure to rescind the Red Card suspension of Folarin Baloqun’s Red Card; Lamar Hunt’s founding of the North American Soccer League; A major cocaine bust in Spain, with the central figure in the investigation being a major supporter of Real Madrid and someone who was thinking of investing in Argentine soccer players; The Argentine team’s extraordinary record of referee calls that favor them and punish the opposition—something that persisted throughout the World Cup tournament; Review of the role of the Argentine branch of the fascist P‑2 Lodge in the financing of Exocet cruise missiles to be used against British naval forces in the Falklands War; Argentine star Lionel Messi’s relationship to Israeli intelligence; Argentine president Javier Milei’s “fire sale” of land and natural resources—eclipsed by the performance of Argentina in the World Cup; The curious selection of a Major League Soccer referee one of the Argentine team’s games; The head of FIFA’s curious letter to Donald Trump; Review of the Nazi heritage of both Adidas and Puma (founded by the Dassler brothers, who had served the Third Reich); Review of the use of Dassler company track shoes by Jesse Owens in the 1936 Olympics; Adidas’s crafting of running shoes used by the winners of the London Marathon.
