COMMENT: On Sun­day, Sep­tem­ber 20, it was Dave’s plea­sure to host the bril­liant Hal Sander­son. Com­plet­ing a tour de-force pre­sen­ta­tion on the polit­i­cal man­i­fes­ta­tions of Andy Warhol and how they ran afoul of the pow­ers that be, Hal pre­sent­ed more detail on Valerie Solanas, the women who shot Warhol and iden­ti­fied her­self to Warhol as work­ing for the CIA.

Enjoy­ing remark­ably lenient treat­ment by the legal sys­tem, Solanas’ behav­ior helped to split and to “rad­i­cal­ize the women’s move­ment.”

Loom­ing large in the den­i­gra­tion of Warhol and the kid-glove treat­ment of Solanas are mem­bers of the Rock­e­feller fam­i­ly. Nel­son Rockefeller’s grand­daugh­ter and a daugh­ter of David Rock­e­feller helped to frame Warhol in a bad light and to treat Solanas with rel­a­tive respectabil­i­ty.
