COMMENT: The New York Times is viewed by the CIA as its num­ber one pro­pa­gan­da asset. It is no acci­dent that it was “The Grey Lady” that pub­lished the War­ren Report, which is fic­tion.

In his lat­est Patre­on talk, Dave con­trasts the Times’ mod­i­fied lim­it­ed hang­out con­cern­ing the 1965–66 Indone­sian geno­cide with the bru­tal, sear­ing real­i­ty of that CIA-engi­neered coup as set forth by Vin­cent Bevins’ land­mark text The Jakar­ta Method: Wash­ing­ton’s Anti­com­mu­nist Cru­sade & The Mass Mur­der Pro­gram that Shaped Our World.

Far from being the “Asians run­ning amok” that it was por­trayed as being in the Times, it was a CIA orches­trat­ed slaugh­ter, ini­ti­at­ed by what was almost cer­tain­ly a “False Flag” Com­mu­nist coup.

Sig­nif­i­cant­ly, this geno­cide became an insti­tu­tion­al­ized role mod­el, trum­pet­ed about in places like Chile, Brazil and oth­er coun­tries in the devel­op­ing world. The warn­ing that “Jakar­ta is com­ing” became a bloody har­bin­ger of that insti­tu­tion­al­iza­tion.

U.S. Embassy “polit­i­cal offi­cer” Robert Martens observed that of the lists the U.S. pre­pared and hand­ed to the Indone­sian army: “It real­ly was a big help to the army . . . . I prob­a­bly have a lot of blood on my hands, but that’s not all bad.”

Points of Analy­sis and Dis­cus­sion Include: U.S. insis­tence that CIA pro­tege Suhar­to negate nation­al­iza­tion of U.S. oil com­pa­nies; U.S. sup­ply­ing lists of those to be killed to the Indone­sian death squads; The demo­c­ra­t­ic, inclu­sive and decid­ed­ly non-athe­ist nature of the Indone­sian Com­mu­nist Par­ty; The fact that the PKI (Indone­sian Com­mu­nist Par­ty) was seen as a refuge for Indone­si­a’s large Hin­du and Bud­dhist minori­ties, as well as for non-Jihadist Mus­lims; The delib­er­ate styling of Mus­lim com­po­nents of the death squads after Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich; The fail­ure of the fall of the Berlin Wall to pro­vide cit­i­zens of the for­mer “Sec­ond World” with the lifestyle they had been promised; Vivid por­traits of the vic­tims and sur­vivors of the mas­sacres and Indone­sian con­cen­tra­tion camps; The trou­bling skele­tons and skulls that re-sur­face in Bali, dis­rupt­ing the “mind­ful­ness” of West­ern tourists, igno­rant of the slaugh­ter under­ly­ing their vaca­tion spots.
