On Sun­day 5/26/2019 from 11 a.m. (Pacif­ic Time) until 7pm, and on Mon­day, 5/27/2019 from 10am until 7pm, KFJC-FM will fea­ture hours of pro­gram­ming doc­u­ment­ing the pro­found con­nec­tions of U.S. indus­try and finance to the fas­cist pow­ers of World War II. In the decades since the end of the Sec­ond World War, much has been writ­ten about the war and fas­cism, the dri­ving force behind the aggres­sion that pre­cip­i­tat­ed that con­flict. Unfor­tu­nate­ly, much of what has been said and writ­ten has failed to iden­ti­fy and ana­lyze the caus­es, nature and method­ol­o­gy of fascism—German Nation­al Social­ism or “Nazism” in par­tic­u­lar. A deep­er, more accu­rate analy­sis was pre­sent­ed in pub­lished lit­er­a­ture, par­tic­u­lar­ly vol­umes pub­lished dur­ing, or in the imme­di­ate after­math of, the Sec­ond World War. . . . . Fas­cism (Nazism in par­tic­u­lar) was an out­growth of glob­al­iza­tion and the con­struc­tion of inter­na­tion­al monop­o­lies (car­tels). Key to under­stand­ing this phe­nom­e­non is analy­sis of the Webb-Pomerene act, leg­is­lat­ed near the end of the First World War. A loop­hole in the Anti-trust leg­is­la­tion of 1914, it effec­tive­ly legal­ized the for­ma­tion of cartels—international monopolies—for firms that were barred from domes­tic monop­o­lis­tic prac­tices. Decry­ing what they viewed as exces­sive and restric­tive “reg­u­la­tion” here in the Unit­ed States, U.S.-based transna­tion­al cor­po­ra­tions invest­ed their prof­its from the indus­tri­al boom of the 1920’s abroad, pri­mar­i­ly in Japan and Ger­many. This process might well be viewed as the real begin­ning of what is now known as “glob­al­iza­tion.” This rein­vest­ment of the prof­its of the Amer­i­can indus­tri­al boom of the 1920’s in Japan­ese and Ger­man strate­gic heavy indus­try was the cap­i­tal that drove the engines of con­quest that sub­dued both Europe and Asia dur­ing World War II. On Sun­day, we will high­light the Amer­i­can-Ger­man indus­tri­al axis and its var­i­ous man­i­fes­ta­tions. On Mon­day, we will explore the Amer­i­can-Japan­ese indus­tri­al axis.

Pick­ing up where FTR #844 left off, this pro­gram exam­ines devel­op­ments in Indone­sia after the 1965 CIA coup that deposed Sukarno. An appar­ent par­tic­i­pant in an unsuc­cess­ful 1958 attempt against Sukarno was Lee Har­vey Oswald. Before tack­ling the bulk of the Indone­sia mate­r­i­al, Peter notes that the sup­posed “Com­mu­nist” Oswald actu­al­ly had con­nec­tions to Nazi ele­ments. After an encap­su­la­tion of the Japan­ese Gold­en Lily pro­gram that loot­ed much of Asia, the pro­gram sets forth some of the mys­ter­ies that unfold in con­nec­tion with the dis­po­si­tion of Sukarno’s “Rev­o­lu­tion­ary Fund.” Appar­ent­ly com­prised of both Gold­en Lily trea­sure and war loot trans­port­ed to the Asia by the Third Reich, the Rev­o­lu­tion­ary Fund has defied efforts by Sukarno fam­i­ly mem­bers and asso­ciates to obtain some of the wealth. Among the cast of char­ac­ters wind­ing through the mys­te­ri­ous cor­ri­dors of the Rev­o­lu­tion­ary Fund inves­tiga­tive maze are: a mys­te­ri­ous Dr. Poch, alleged in an Indone­sian best sell­er by Dr. Sus­ro Huso­do to have been Adolf Hitler; the pro­fes­sion­al frus­tra­tion and mys­te­ri­ous demise of Dr. Edi­son Damanik, who attempt­ed to obtain some of the Rev­o­lu­tion­ary Fund loot; arms deal­er Soeryo Goer­it­no, who suf­fered a dis­abling stroke or seizure when he attempt­ed to nav­i­gate the per­ilous waters of the Rev­o­lu­tion­ary Fund and its trib­u­taries.

Peter Lev­en­da’s “The Hitler Lega­cy” is, in Mr. Emory’s opin­ion, one of the most impor­tant polit­i­cal books ever writ­ten. This sev­enth inter­view with Peter about the book sets forth the pow­er­ful Nazi pres­ence in Indone­sia pri­or to, dur­ing, and after World War II. In addi­tion to the sig­nif­i­cant pres­ence of the Dutch Nazi par­ty in Indone­sia, the NSDAP also had a sig­nif­i­cant pres­ence in this for­mer colony of the Nether­lands. The most pop­u­lous Mus­lim coun­try in the world, Indone­sia was seen as the key ele­ment in an Islamist bul­wark against Com­mu­nist Chi­na. This strat­a­gem was envi­sioned by Charles Willough­by, Gen­er­al Dou­glas MacArthur’s intel­li­gence chief and a doc­tri­naire fas­cist. Although sup­port­ive of Axis con­quest of the Nether­lands and Indone­sia, which he saw as free­ing the arch­i­pel­ago from colo­nial dom­i­na­tion, Sukarno espoused a “Third Way” at the con­fer­ence of Non-Aligned nations in Ban­dung in 1955. This led the US to see him as a Com­mu­nist and begin attempts to depose him. In order to pro­vide financ­ing for Indone­sia and oth­er Third World coun­tries, Sukarno appears to have turned to Hjal­mar Schacht, Hitler’s finance min­is­ter, who uti­lized Nazi gold ship­ments to Asia to “prime the eco­nom­ic pump” for this abortive project.

The first of sev­er­al inter­views with Peter Lev­en­da about his impor­tant new book “The Hitler Lega­cy,” this pro­gram high­lights the evo­lu­tion of ele­ments which fig­ure into the devel­op­ment of the post-war Nazi under­ground. At the end of the First World War, the Bol­she­vik Rev­o­lu­tion in Rus­sia and abortive Marx­ist upris­ings in Ger­many and else­where in Europe infused the pow­er elite in the U.S. with a para­noid ide­o­log­i­cal ter­ror of a glob­al “Jew­ish-Marx­ist” con­spir­a­cy. Com­bined with fear of Catholic and Jew­ish immi­grants and their effect on Amer­i­can soci­ety, this ide­o­log­i­cal para­noia fused with a social Dar­win­ism that found its expres­sion in eugenics–a pseu­do-intel­lec­tu­al doc­trine that sought the pro­mo­tion of “desir­able” social and eth­nic types and the sup­pres­sion and/or elim­i­na­tion of “infe­ri­or” racial types. See­ing Ger­many as the point ele­ment in the strug­gle against world Marx­ism, indi­vid­u­als and polit­i­cal par­ties sought to ally with Ger­man fas­cists to bring fas­cism to the U.S. This fas­cist Fifth Col­umn includ­ed polit­i­cal groups rang­ing from the Ku Klux Klan to the Sil­ver Shirts of William Dud­ley Pel­ley, as well as the pro­to­typ­i­cal right-wing talk show host Father Charles Cough­lin, “the Radio Priest.” Cough­lin’s efforts were sub­si­dized by Third Reich intel­li­gence. Financed by financiers and indus­tri­al­ists who sup­port­ed fas­cism, this Fifth Col­umn attempt­ed to kill and/or over­throw FDR on sev­er­al occa­sions. In the Mid­dle East, the con­cept of glob­al jihad was devel­oped by Ger­man archael­o­gist Max von Oppen­heim dur­ing the First World War. Envi­sion­ing the world’s Mus­lims as proxy war­riors against the Entente Pow­ers of Britain, France and Rus­sia, von Oppen­heim cre­at­ed the tem­plate for con­tem­po­rary Islam­ic fas­cism and jihadism. Fol­low­ing the divi­sion of the for­mer Ottoman Empire by Britain and France after World War I, the “Arab Street” began man­i­fest­ing belief in an inter­na­tion­al glob­al con­spir­a­cy involv­ing Jews and the Euro­pean colo­nial pow­ers that res­onat­ed with the Amer­i­can pow­er elite’s ido­l­og­i­cal anx­i­eties.
