FTR #902 The Underground Reich, and the Deep Politics of the CIA “Privacy Advocates”: Update on the Adventures of Eddie the Friendly Spook

The mafia began as a resis­tance move­ment focused against Norse (Viking) and Sara­cen (Turkish/Muslim) invaders in 12th and 13 cen­tu­ry Sici­ly. It might seem incred­i­ble to the casu­al observ­er that an orga­ni­za­tion that began so long ago could have devel­oped and spread to the size, grav­i­tas and scope of oper­a­tions that it has. We also appre­ci­ate that when Mr. Emory uses the term “Under­ground Reich,” it might seem odd or incred­i­ble to many. Bring­ing up to date “L’Af­faire Snow­den,” we under­score the deep pol­i­tics under­ly­ing the CIA’s broad­cast psy­cho­log­i­cal war­fare fronts and their evo­lu­tion into the milieu involv­ing and sur­round­ing Eddie the Friend­ly Spook. Much of the pro­gram under­scores the Gehlen Org’s links to the Under­ground Reich, in order to rein­force lis­ten­ers’ under­stand­ing of how this net­work dat­ing to World War II could project its influ­ence through the decades and into our con­tem­po­rary his­tor­i­cal peri­od. ” . . . A net­work of for­mer Nazi intel­li­gence agents, the major­i­ty of whom were mem­bers of the SS, began work­ing out of offices at Camp King side by side with army intel­li­gence offi­cers. . . . The Gehlen Orga­ni­za­tion was a mur­der­ous bunch, “free-wheel­ing” and out of con­trol. . . The army became fed up with the Gehlen Orga­ni­za­tion, but there was no way out. Its oper­a­tives were pro­fes­sion­al dou­ble-crossers and liars–many were also alleged war criminals–and now they had the army over a bar­rel. . . .” Dis­cus­sion con­cludes with “First Look” media czar Pierre Omid­yar’s selec­tion of Robert Liet­zke to be an Omid­yar fel­low (Liet­zke was one of Edward Snow­den’s supe­ri­ors when he was employed at Booz Allen Hamil­ton.) FTR #895 The CIA and the “Privacy” Advocates: Update on the Adventures of Eddie the Friendly Spook

Con­tin­u­ing analy­sis and dis­cus­sion from FTR #891, we fur­ther explore the CIA-gen­er­at­ed back­ground and fund­ing of the “pri­va­cy” advo­cates who com­prise much of “Team Snow­den.” Recall that Snow­den him­self was with CIA when he chose to dou­ble on NSA. We begin by review­ing our scruti­ny of Edward Snow­den from the per­spec­tive of Colonel L. Fletch­er Prouty, the Air Force “Focal Point Offi­cer” who devel­oped a CIA-con­trolled net­work inside of the branch­es of the mil­i­tary and oth­er agen­cies of the fed­er­al gov­ern­ment. This “focal point” net­work con­sti­tut­ed a “secret gov­ern­ment with­in a gov­ern­ment” that appears to exist to this day. Next, we set forth the evo­lu­tion of the Broad­cast­ing Board of Gov­er­nors and Radio Free Asia, the par­ent orga­ni­za­tions of the Open Tech­nol­o­gy Fund. The OTF has cap­i­tal­ized much of the encrypt­ed “anti-sur­veil­lance” tech­nol­o­gy that has been devel­oped. “Team Snow­den,” in turn, has evolved from this milieu. In our past dis­cus­sions of the assas­si­na­tion of Pres­i­dent Kennedy, we have not­ed that the very same covert action net­works used to over­throw and elim­i­nate gov­ern­ments and indi­vid­u­als deemed hos­tile to U.S. inter­ests were ulti­mate­ly deployed against Amer­i­cans and even the Unit­ed States itself. “Regime change” and desta­bi­liza­tion came home. In a sim­i­lar fash­ion, it is our con­sid­ered opin­ion that a CIA-derived tech­nol­o­gy milieu devel­oped to assist and effect “ops” abroad was used to desta­bi­lize the Oba­ma admin­is­tra­tion through the Snow­den “op.” ” . . . Read­ers might find it odd that a US gov­ern­ment agency estab­lished as a way to laun­der the image of var­i­ous shady pro­pa­ganda out­fits (more on that soon) is now keen to fund tech­nolo­gies designed to pro­tect us from the US gov­ern­ment. More­over, it might seem curi­ous that its mon­ey would be so warm­ly wel­comed by some of the Internet’s fiercest antigov­ern­ment activists. . . . . You’d think that anti-sur­veil­lance activists like Chris Soghoian, Jacob Appel­baum, Cory Doc­torow and Jil­lian York would be staunch­ly against out­fits like BBG and Radio Free Asia, and the role they have played — and con­tinue to play — in work­ing with defense and cor­po­rate inter­ests to project and impose U.S. pow­er abroad. FTR #894 Physicians, Heal Thyselves: Hypocrisy and the Trump Campaign

From the Repub­li­can Par­ty to Euro­pean polit­i­cal and intel­lec­tu­al elites to “The New York Times,” every­one is “shocked, shocked” at the fascis­tic nature of the Trump can­di­da­cy. They should­n’t be–his can­di­da­cy is the direct out­growth of pow­er­ful forces that have been at work in this coun­try for decades. After high­light­ing two op-ed pieces from the “Times,” accu­rate­ly not­ing the vir­u­lent fas­cism at the root of the Trump phe­nom­e­non, the broad­cast notes that nei­ther Europe, where fas­cism is on the march once again, nor the Amer­i­can so-called “pro­gres­sive sec­tor,” which has embraced the “Eddie the Friend­ly Spook,” Glenn Green­wald and Julian Assange are in a posi­tion to com­plain. Snow­den, Green­wald, Assange et al embody PRECISELY the same forces per­co­lat­ing at the sur­face of the Trump waters. FTR #891 How Might Colonel L. Fletcher Prouty Have Viewed Edward Snowden? (The Foxes Aren’t Guarding the Henhouse, They ARE the Henhouse, Part 2: Update on the Adventures of Eddie the Friendly Spook)

One of the most inci­sive crit­ics of the CIA was the late [U.S. Air Force] Colonel L. Fletch­er Prouty. Cho­sen by Allen Dulles to set up “focal point” func­tions for CIA with­in oth­er agen­cies of the U.S. gov­ern­ment, Prouty was instru­men­tal in the cre­ation of what he called a “Secret Team”–the title of his 1969 book about “The Agency.” Dulles’ secret net­work infil­trat­ed the mil­i­tary, the State Depart­ment, the FAA and even the White House. Look­ing at CIA offi­cer Edward Snow­den’s activ­i­ties, Prouty would NOT have tak­en them at face val­ue and would have seen them against the back­ground of the sub-rosa activ­i­ties with which he was famil­iar and had helped cre­ate, weigh­ing the pos­si­bil­i­ty that Snow­den was oper­at­ing against NSA on behalf of CIA. Much of the pro­gram details the sab­o­tage of Fran­cis Gary Pow­ers’ U‑2 spy plane in 1960 on the eve of a sum­mit con­fer­ence between then U.S. Pres­i­dent Dwight Eisen­how­er and Sovi­et Pre­mier Niki­ta Khr­uschev. Dis­patched against the spe­cif­ic orders of Dwight Eisen­how­er, the U‑2 appears to have been delib­er­ate­ly sab­o­taged. The inci­dent led to the can­cel­la­tion of the sum­mit con­fer­ence and the neu­tral­iza­tion of detente between the Sovi­et Union and the Unit­ed States. Prouty would have not­ed that Edward Snow­den was work­ing for the CIA when he under­took his leak­ing oper­a­tion. Prouty would also have not­ed Snow­den’s extreme right-wing views and would not have tak­en his activ­i­ties at face val­ue. Snow­den’s jour­ney to Hong Kong frus­trat­ed Pres­i­dent Oba­ma’s attempts at resolv­ing U.S. and Chi­nese elec­tron­ic spy­ing and hack­ing. Snow­den’s Chi­na sojourn also antic­i­pat­ed U.S. mil­i­tary and eco­nom­ic pres­sure on Chi­na. Snow­den’s jour­ney from Chi­na to Rus­sia led to the can­cel­la­tion of a sum­mit con­fer­ence between Oba­ma and Putin and end­ed the Oba­ma admin­is­tra­tion’s “reboot with Rus­sia.” The Snow­den “op” pre­ced­ed the Maid­an covert oper­a­tion and atten­dant Ukrain­ian civ­il war, as well as West­ern eco­nom­ic pres­sure on Rus­sia. As a trained intel­li­gence offi­cer, Prouty would have not­ed that the 1.7 mil­lion doc­u­ments (2.7 mil­lion by some accounts) pur­loined by Snow­den fun­da­men­tal­ly com­pro­mised NSA, per­haps to pre­vent whis­tle-blow­ing on CIA use of Mus­lim Broth­er­hood-relat­ed Islamists as proxy war­riors and her­alds of cor­po­ratist eco­nom­ics in what Mr. Emory calls “The Earth Island Boo­gie.” The pro­gram con­cludes with dis­cus­sion of the intel­li­gence con­nec­tions of the very pri­va­cy activists who are sup­pos­ed­ly opposed to U.S. gov­ern­ment elec­tron­ic sur­veil­lance. Are Snow­den and those so-called “pri­va­cy activists” actu­al­ly “focal point” per­son­nel in the net­works set up for Allen Dulles by Prouty? FTR #890 Tracking from the Far Right: Update on the Adventures of Eddie the Friendly Spook

QUICK: Who said this?: “ ‘It seems like the [Unit­ed States Dol­lar] and [Great Britain’s Pound] are both like­ly to go the way of the zim­babwe dol­lar,’ he sug­gested in March 2009. ‘Espe­cially with that cock­bag Bernanke decid­ing to mag­i­cally print 1.2T more dol­lars.’ . . . Oba­ma was ‘plan­ning to deval­ue the cur­rency absolute­ly as fast as the­o­ret­i­cally pos­si­ble,’ he wrote. . . .” Ted Cruz? Don­ald Trump? Mar­co Rubio? Paul Ryan? Rand Paul? No, it is Edward Snow­den. Note how this jibes with Paul Krug­man’s descrip­tion of the GOP pri­ma­ry field: ” . . . . After all, Paul Ryan, the speak­er of the House, not only berat­ed Ben Bernanke, Ms. Yellen’s pre­de­ces­sor, for poli­cies that alleged­ly risked infla­tion (which nev­er mate­ri­al­ized), but he also dab­bled in con­spir­a­cy the­o­riz­ing, accus­ing Mr. Bernanke of act­ing to “bail out fis­cal pol­i­cy.” . . . But Wall Street isn’t the only source of malign pres­sure on the Fed, and in the actu­al­ly exist­ing U.S. polit­i­cal sit­u­a­tion, such a bill would essen­tial­ly empow­er the cranks — the gold-stan­dard-lov­ing, hyper­in­fla­tion-is-com­ing types who dom­i­nate the mod­ern G.O.P., and have spent the past five or six years try­ing to bul­ly mon­e­tary pol­i­cy mak­ers into ceas­ing and desist­ing from their efforts to pre­vent eco­nom­ic dis­as­ter.” This pro­gram high­lights the far-right, fascis­tic forces under­ly­ing Eddie the Friend­ly Spook. Much of the pro­gram con­sists of excerpts of past pro­grams, stretch­ing back to the late 1990’s. The elec­tron­ic “vac­u­um clean­er” approach of NSA and GCHQ has been on the pub­lic record for years. In the 1990’s NSA, GCHQ and the ECHELON/Five Eyes net­work came under joint assault by Ger­many and the Free Con­gress Foun­da­tion. The lat­ter is very close to Nazi alum­ni of the Third Reich, the OUN/B in par­tic­u­lar, and is an ele­ment deeply involved in pro­ject­ing the Anti-Bol­she­vik Bloc of Nations back into the for­mer U.S.S.R. and East­ern Europe. GOP big­wig Grover Norquist has been a vocif­er­ous oppo­nent of NSA spy­ing, as well as shep­herd­ing Mus­lim Broth­er­hood-linked ele­ments in the Unit­ed States. Pro­gram High­lights Include: Mr. Emory’s first post on “L’Af­faire Snow­den,” in which he won­dered aloud what all the fuss was about, since this has been on the pub­lic record for years; review of the fact that oth­er Euro­pean coun­tries do the same thing as NSA/GCHQ; Review of Snow­den’s views on Social Secu­ri­ty: ” . . . FTR #889 Intercept This! Compendium on Citizen Omidyar

Draw­ing togeth­er infor­ma­tion pre­sent­ed in numer­ous broad­casts over the peri­od of sev­er­al years, this pro­gram high­lights the endeav­ors of Glenn Green­wald’s journalistic/financial angel Pierre Omid­yar. Guid­ed by the Aus­tri­an School/free-mar­ket, neo-lib­er­al eco­nom­ics of Her­nan­do De Soto, Omid­yar’s “phil­an­thropic” efforts are close­ly aligned with covert action imple­ment­ed in con­cert with U.S. intel­li­gence cutouts such as U.S. Agency for Inter­na­tion­al Devel­op­ment, the Nation­al Endow­ment for Democ­ra­cy and the Ford Foun­da­tion.

Focus­ing on the Omid­yar Net­work’s SKS orga­ni­za­tion, the dis­cus­sion notes the bru­tal, lethal results of its micro-finance pro­grams in India. Omid­yar Net­work’s key Indi­an func­tionary Jayant Sin­ha, took time off to help direct the elec­tion cam­paign of Naren­dra Modi, whose BJP is a cat’s paw for the RSS, a Hin­du nationalist/fascist orga­ni­za­tion inspired by Hitler and Mus­soli­ni. Three quar­ter of Mod­i’s cab­i­net was select­ed from the RSS, to which Modi belonged. (Gand­hi was assas­si­nat­ed by a mem­ber of RSS.)

One of the key vehi­cles for Omid­yar Net­work’s “phil­an­thropy” in India is the Rur­al Devel­op­ment Insti­tute (renamed “Lan­desa”), devel­oped by Roy Proster­man. Proster­man’s RDI was a key fea­ture of the Phoenix assas­si­na­tion pro­gram in Viet­nam. Cit­i­zen Omid­yar has also helped to fund the return to pow­er of the OUN/B fas­cists in Ukraine, again part­ner­ing with U.S. intel­li­gence cutouts such as U.S. AID and the Nation­al Endow­ment for Democ­ra­cy.

Draw­ing togeth­er mate­r­i­al from pre­vi­ous pro­grams and posts, this broad­cast high­lights Cit­i­zen Green­wald’s role as “a shiller for killers.” QUICK–who do you think said this?: “The parade of evils caused by ille­gal immi­gra­tion is wide­ly known, . . . ille­gal immi­gra­tion wreaks hav­oc eco­nom­i­cal­ly, social­ly, and cul­tur­al­ly; makes a mock­ery of the rule of law; and is dis­grace­ful just on basic fair­ness grounds alone. . . . unman­age­ably end­less hordes of peo­ple pour over the bor­der in num­bers far too large to assim­i­late, and who con­se­quent­ly have no need, moti­va­tion or abil­i­ty to assim­i­late. . . [they pose a threat to] mid­dle-class sub­ur­ban vot­ers.” Don­ald Trump, right? Wrong–it was Glenn Green­wald.

Begin­ning with dis­cus­sion of Green­wald’s role in sup­press­ing jour­nal­is­tic cov­er­age of, and basic free­dom of speech about, Big Tobac­co’s lethal mar­ket­ing prac­tices, we note his role in the Wachtell Lip­ton suit. That suit forced the can­cel­la­tion of a “Front­line” broad­cast and muz­zled key whistle­blow­ers from even dis­cussing the doc­u­ments reveal­ing cig­a­rette man­u­fac­tur­ers’ sin­is­ter activ­i­ty.

Once in pri­vate prac­tice, Green­wald con­tin­ued his work as a shiller for killers, run­ning legal inter­fer­ence for the “lead­er­less resis­tance” strat­e­gy by pro­tect­ing Nazi killers against civ­il suits and mur­der charges.

In addi­tion to defend­ing Nazi leader Matthew Hale against a suit brought by vic­tims of one of his mur­der­ous foot sol­diers, Green­wald defend­ed him when he solicit­ed the mur­der of Judge Joan Lefkow. Judge Lefkow’s hus­band and moth­er were shot to death in her home, after one of Hale’s fol­low­ers post­ed the judge’s home address, a map to her home and pic­tures of her fam­i­ly online. Appar­ent­ly Cit­i­zen Green­wald’s con­cern for inter­net pri­va­cy did not extent to the unfor­tu­nate Judge Lefkow.

Green­wald also defend­ed the Nation­al Alliance and oth­er anti-immi­gra­tion groups against a suit that held them liable for beat­ing and stab­bing attacks on Mex­i­can day labor­ers. The Nation­al Alliance pub­lish­es books specif­i­cal­ly intend­ed to moti­vate racial vio­lence.

In fact, the “Bundy­ists” are real­iz­ing the agen­da of the Wise Use move­ment and the Koch broth­ers, both advo­cates of ced­ing con­trol of fed­er­al lands to local con­trol, in order that cor­po­rate inter­ests such as tim­ber, min­ing and cat­tle ranch­ing can use the ter­ri­to­ry for their own use and prof­it. By the same token, the likes of Edward Snow­den and Julian Assange have arro­gat­ed to them­selves the use, con­trol and dis­sem­i­na­tion of sen­si­tive infor­ma­tion that was not theirs to own or dis­trib­ute.
