John Perry Barlow (Grateful Dead Lyricist, Dick Cheney Campaign Manager, George Wallace Voter), the CIA, and the Genesis of Social Media
In FTR #854, we noted John Perry Barlow’s background as Dick Cheney’s campaign manager and George Wallace supporter in 1968. In FTR #895, we discussed the fact that the Electronic Frontier Foundation embraced technologies developed by CIA-linked institutions. Barlow founded the EFF. It turns out that Barlow was invited to CIA headquarters in 1992 and advanced concepts that may well have lead to the development of social media–”. . . Let’s create a process of information digestion in which inexpensive data are gathered from largely open sources and condensed, through an open process . . . The entity I envision would be small, highly networked, and generally visible. It would be open to information from all available sources . . . It would rely heavily on the Internet, public media, the academic press, and an informal worldwide network of volunteers–a kind of global Neighborhood Watch–that would submit on-the-ground reports. . . . It would use off-the-shelf technology, and use it less for gathering data than for collating and communicating them. Being off-the-shelf, it could deploy tools while they were still state-of-the-art. . . .”

FTR #895 The CIA and the “Privacy” Advocates: Update on the Adventures of Eddie the Friendly Spook
Continuing analysis and discussion from FTR #891, we further explore the CIA-generated background and funding of the “privacy” advocates who comprise much of “Team Snowden.” Recall that Snowden himself was with CIA when he chose to double on NSA. We begin by reviewing our scrutiny of Edward Snowden from the perspective of Colonel L. Fletcher Prouty, the Air Force “Focal Point Officer” who developed a CIA-controlled network inside of the branches of the military and other agencies of the federal government. This “focal point” network constituted a “secret government within a government” that appears to exist to this day. Next, we set forth the evolution of the Broadcasting Board of Governors and Radio Free Asia, the parent organizations of the Open Technology Fund. The OTF has capitalized much of the encrypted “anti-surveillance” technology that has been developed. “Team Snowden,” in turn, has evolved from this milieu. In our past discussions of the assassination of President Kennedy, we have noted that the very same covert action networks used to overthrow and eliminate governments and individuals deemed hostile to U.S. interests were ultimately deployed against Americans and even the United States itself. “Regime change” and destabilization came home. In a similar fashion, it is our considered opinion that a CIA-derived technology milieu developed to assist and effect “ops” abroad was used to destabilize the Obama administration through the Snowden “op.” ” . . . Readers might find it odd that a US government agency established as a way to launder the image of various shady propaganda outfits (more on that soon) is now keen to fund technologies designed to protect us from the US government. Moreover, it might seem curious that its money would be so warmly welcomed by some of the Internet’s fiercest antigovernment activists. . . . . You’d think that anti-surveillance activists like Chris Soghoian, Jacob Appelbaum, Cory Doctorow and Jillian York would be staunchly against outfits like BBG and Radio Free Asia, and the role they have played — and continue to play — in working with defense and corporate interests to project and impose U.S. power abroad. Instead, these radical activists have knowingly joined the club, and in doing so, have become willing pitchmen for a wing of the very same U.S. National Security State they so adamantly oppose. . . .” Program Highlights Include: The controversy over WhatsApp’s encryption technology; the development of WhatsApp’s encryption technology by the CIA-derived Open Technology Fund; FBI Director James Comey’s support for Mitt Romney in 2012; the apparent role of Comey in destabilizing the Obama administration and the Hillary Clinton campaign.
FTR #890 Tracking from the Far Right: Update on the Adventures of Eddie the Friendly Spook
QUICK: Who said this?: “ ‘It seems like the [United States Dollar] and [Great Britain’s Pound] are both likely to go the way of the zimbabwe dollar,’ he suggested in March 2009. ‘Especially with that cockbag Bernanke deciding to magically print 1.2T more dollars.’ . . . Obama was ‘planning to devalue the currency absolutely as fast as theoretically possible,’ he wrote. . . .” Ted Cruz? Donald Trump? Marco Rubio? Paul Ryan? Rand Paul? No, it is Edward Snowden. Note how this jibes with Paul Krugman’s description of the GOP primary field: ” . . . . After all, Paul Ryan, the speaker of the House, not only berated Ben Bernanke, Ms. Yellen’s predecessor, for policies that allegedly risked inflation (which never materialized), but he also dabbled in conspiracy theorizing, accusing Mr. Bernanke of acting to “bail out fiscal policy.” . . . But Wall Street isn’t the only source of malign pressure on the Fed, and in the actually existing U.S. political situation, such a bill would essentially empower the cranks — the gold-standard-loving, hyperinflation-is-coming types who dominate the modern G.O.P., and have spent the past five or six years trying to bully monetary policy makers into ceasing and desisting from their efforts to prevent economic disaster.” This program highlights the far-right, fascistic forces underlying Eddie the Friendly Spook. Much of the program consists of excerpts of past programs, stretching back to the late 1990’s. The electronic “vacuum cleaner” approach of NSA and GCHQ has been on the public record for years. In the 1990’s NSA, GCHQ and the ECHELON/Five Eyes network came under joint assault by Germany and the Free Congress Foundation. The latter is very close to Nazi alumni of the Third Reich, the OUN/B in particular, and is an element deeply involved in projecting the Anti-Bolshevik Bloc of Nations back into the former U.S.S.R. and Eastern Europe. GOP bigwig Grover Norquist has been a vociferous opponent of NSA spying, as well as shepherding Muslim Brotherhood-linked elements in the United States. Program Highlights Include: Mr. Emory’s first post on “L’Affaire Snowden,” in which he wondered aloud what all the fuss was about, since this has been on the public record for years; review of the fact that other European countries do the same thing as NSA/GCHQ; Review of Snowden’s views on Social Security: ” . . . Snowden wrote that the elderly ‘wouldn’t be fucking helpless if you weren’t sending them fucking checks to sit on their ass and lay in hospitals all day.’ ”
Surprise, Surprise! BND Spying on U.S. Governmental Agencies, Individuals and NGO’s

FTR #857 Update on Ukraine, the Earth Island Boogie and “Team Snowden”
Placing the Ukraine crisis in a larger framework, this program analyzes the event in the context of both the “Earth Island” (or “World Island” as it is sometimes called) and the psy-op fronted for by Edward Snowden. Stretching from the Straits of Gibraltar, all across Europe, most of the Middle East, Eurasia, Russia, China and India, that stretch of land: comprises most of the world’s land mass; contains most of the world’s population and most of the world’s natural resources (including oil and natural gas.) Geopoliticians have long seen controlling that land mass as the key to world domination. The population that occupies the middle of that stretch of geography is largely Muslim. Utilizing that Muslim population to control the resources of the Earth Island is a stratagem that has been in effect in the West for a century. That stratagem is apparently behind the inclusion of Muslim Chechen fighters associated with the Islamic State in the Ukraine war, fighting under the administrative command of the Nazi Pravy Sektor group. After reviewing Zbigniew Brzezinski’s use of Muslim proxy warriors to draw the Soviets into the first Afghan war and his view of Ukraine as essential to bottling-up Russia, the program notes that the U.S. is continuing to train Nazi combatants in Ukraine despite a prohibition against doing so, because the Ukraine Ministry of Interior is vetting the trainees–THAT is the ministry that formed and administers the Nazi formations. Much of the program notes the continuity between Euro-fascists such as the Carl Lundstrom-financed Sweden Democrats and the WikiLeaks/Snowden “op.” (Lundstrom also bankrolled the Pirate Bay website that hosted WikiLeaks.) Program Highlights Include: statements by Ukrainian “volunteer” battalions that they want to attack Russia; Glenn Greenwald financial angel Pierre Omidyar’s new partnership with the National Endowment for Democracy (a U.S. intelligence proxy element); the push by the punisher battalions for Poroshenko to declare war (something he can’t do if the country is to receive badly-needed aid from the IMF); the links between Julian Assange assistant Joran Jermas (aka “Israel Shamir”) and the Nazi-inspired anti-Semitic MAUP group in Ukraine (at which David Duke teaches); the arrest of a member of parliament from the Sweden Democrats for apparent involvement in a bomb plot; review of the Sweden Democrats’ financing by Carl Lundstrom.
FTR #854 The Underground Reich and the Obverse Oswald: Update on the Adventures of Eddie the Friendly Spook
Returning once again to “L’Affaire Snowden,” we note the revealingly profound discontinuities in this event and the key characters involved. We also revisit some of the key features of what appears to have been an Underground Reich intelligence operation. Far from being “shocked, shocked” by the Snowden material, the German BND (successor organization to the Reinhard Gehlen spy outfit) HELPED the NSA spy on foreign leaders. The Snowden “op” also serves as a rationalization for Europe’s assault on American Big Tech and a push for censorship of the Internet. As the New York Stock Exchange, United Airlines and the Wall Street Journal simultaneously experienced what were described as technical glitches, we note that the “Anonymous” hacker group (whoever they are) foreshadowed the event. FTR #829 Fireside Chat about Eddie the Friendly Spook and the Ukraine Crisis
A controversy ensued when it emerged that House majority whip Steve Scalise had attended a meeting of David Duke’s European-American Unity Organization. The newly-seated GOP-dominated congress which Scalise will help to guide began attacking Social Security on its very first day. Specifically, the GOP began attacking the Social Security disability program. These developments serve as a point of entry into our discussion. Snowden is an advocate of eliminating Social Security and the OUN/B fascists running Ukraine are engaging in a similar program to force those in Eastern Ukraine to stop their attempts at secession. The elements of the Snowden/WikiLeaks “op” are networked with Duke, as well. Snowden’s leaking journalist of choice, Nazi fellow-traveler Glenn Greenwald, has been financed by Pierre Omidyar of Ebay, who has also financed the Ukraine coup. The program notes many other elements of confluence between the Snowden/WikiLeaks “op” and the Ukrainian coup. The Snowden/WikiLeaks helped to deep-six Obama’s “reboot with Russia” and also alienate many of the young, idealistic voters who had supported him in 2008, thereby helping to elect the 114th Congress.
FTR #827 Brave New World: Update on the Adventures of Eddie the Friendly Spook
Bringing up to date our ongoing inquiry into “L’Affaire Snowden,” we note a number of important developments, particularly with regard to Germany. After the international hue-and-cry about NSA monitoring Angela Merkel’s mobile phone, the German probe into the alleged event has been dropped for lack of evidence! After reviewing the BND’s monitoring of mobile phone calls by U.S. Secretaries of State Hillary Clinton and John Kerry, the program notes the rhetorical and legal stratagems used by German intelligence to conduct precisely the same type of electronic espionage that NSA performs. In addition to its [apparently failed] attempt to gain entrance to the “Five Eyes” spying consortium, Germany has acquired BlackBerry’s source code, this in exchange for allowing the Canadian firm to acquire a Dusseldorf-based company that handles security for mobile phones. Germany also seeks access to Google’s search engine algorithm. Both the Google algorithm and the BlackBerry source code will give German intelligence important tools to conduct precisely the type of snooping condemned by Merkel et al. Much of the latter part of the program highlights technological developments that are heralding a new phase of civilization. With potentially devastating cyber-terrorism a present reality, the development of artificial intelligence and small, inexpensive, privately-owned drones that can mimic cell phone towers are indicative of the “Brave New World” we have created. Much of the uproar over Snowden’s disclosures stems from future shock–the public has not adjusted to an entirely different technological landscape, in which (as Albert Einstein said with regard to the development of the atomic bomb) “Everything has changed but our way of thinking.”

Updating “L’Affaire Snowden,” this program supplements information about the economic damage done to the American IT sector by Snowden’s disclosures. Snowden’s “op” was, among other things, an act of economic warfare against the U.S.–a “psy-op” designed to provide gravitas for a pre-determined German and Brazilian effort to upgrade their own IT sectors at the expense of the U.S. Other points of information include: more documentation of the effort by Facebook and other U.S. tech firms to data mine their customers to an extraordinary extent; Glenn Greenwald’s continued efforts on behalf of fascists of various stripes; the extreme sensitivity of documents given by Snowden to individuals and institutions not not authorized to receive such important information; Germany’s “accidental” spying on John Kerry and Hillary Clinton; counter-intelligence sparring by the CIA, NSA, GCHQ and BND.
