FTR #873 The New Age, Fascism and the Atlantis Myth

The gulf between Nazism and the so-called New Age might seem to be so wide as to be unbridge­able. Sad­ly, that is not the case.

At the core of Nazi belief was occultism, draw­ing on Pan-Ger­man­ic mythol­o­gy deriv­ing from the Thule Soci­ety, arios­o­phy, ele­ments of Hin­du reli­gious doc­trine and more com­mon­ly rec­og­niz­able belief sys­tems such as astrol­o­gy. The SS Ahnenerbe drew togeth­er many of these threads and anoint­ed them with a man­tle of respectabil­i­ty. As a result, New Age sects and reli­gion have fre­quent­ly dove­tailed with ele­ments of Nazi and fas­cist phi­los­o­phy.

We intro­duce the theme of the pro­gram with dis­cus­sion of some huge works of art in Kaza­khstan. Note that an ana­lyst referred dis­mis­sive­ly to the notion that these were built by ancient astro­nauts linked to Hitler, Atlantis, the Hyper­bore­ans, Lemuria and/or any num­ber of com­mon focal points of Nazi occultism. One of the prin­ci­ple fea­tures of the “Nazi/Atlantis/New Age syn­the­sis” is a fun­da­men­tal­ly racist con­cept called “poly­ge­n­e­sis.” Inher­ent in the con­tention that parts of the human species orig­i­nat­ed from out­er space, Atlantis, etc., poly­ge­n­e­sis is cen­tral to the “sci­en­tif­ic racism” prop­a­gat­ed by eugeni­cists and their Nazi pupils. Among the edi­fices sit­ed by occult poly­ge­n­e­sis advo­cates is Tiwanaku in Bolivia, seen by SS offi­cer Edmund Kiss as proof of the set­tle­ment of Latin Amer­i­ca by “Aryans” from Atlantis, Hyper­borea, Lemuria etc.

The notion of an ancient, Aryan-con­trolled past brought low by “sub-humans,” (gen­er­al­ly grouped around “Da Joos”) recalls a com­mon fea­ture of fascism–a pre­oc­cu­pa­tion with a long-gone, ide­al­ized past. The pro­gram high­lights the polit­i­cal and reli­gious phi­los­o­phy of “eso­teric Nazism,” a sub­ject we will explore in our next pro­gram as well. One of the prime expo­nents of “eso­teric Nazism” was Miguel Ser­ra­no, a Chilean Nazi who was also dis­cussed in our con­ver­sa­tions with Peter Lev­en­da.

Fus­ing tra­di­tion­al Nazi anti-Semi­tism with var­i­ous occult strains, Ser­ra­no posit­ed that the Nazis and Hitler were the man­i­fes­ta­tion of an oth­er­world­ly and supe­ri­or civ­i­liza­tion which would ulti­mate­ly tri­umph after an apoc­a­lyp­tic, cat­a­stroph­ic war involv­ing UFOs, Aryans from Antarc­ti­ca, “Hyper­borea” etc. The Nazi/New Age/Atlantis the­o­ry pre-sup­pos­es a myth­ic, ide­al­ized past and exem­pli­fies the notion of Nazism as a cult–a form of weaponized reli­gion.

FTR #870 The Underground Reich and Indonesia

This pro­gram is set against the back­ground of our recent dis­cus­sions with Peter Lev­en­da about the pro­found Nazi pres­ence in Indone­sia before, dur­ing and after World War II. The bloody 1965 coup against Sukarno is known to have been large­ly engi­neered by the CIA. We now learn that the BND–the Ger­man for­eign intel­li­gence ser­vice and the final incar­na­tion of the Gehlen spy outfit–played a major role in the coup, as well. The appar­ent BND point man for the Fed­er­al Repub­lic’s role in the coup was Rudolf Oeb­s­ger-Roder, like so many Gehlen org offi­cers, a vet­er­an of the SS. The sec­ond half of the broad­cast con­sists of a read­ing of a sec­tion of Ter­ence McKen­na’s book “True Hal­lu­ci­na­tions.” McKen­na alleged­ly came across a Ger­man min­ing engi­neer work­ing for what may well have been the post-war Bor­mann cap­i­tal net­work.

FTR #865 Interview with Peter Levenda about “Ratline” and “Unholy Alliance”

Rat­line high­lights the flight of a mys­te­ri­ous Nazi using the alias Georg Anton Poch. Iden­ti­fied as Hitler in a book pub­lished in Indone­sia, Poch was cer­tain­ly some­one of great impor­tance, though not nec­es­sar­i­ly Hitler. His odyssey sheds light on the Vat­i­can escape net­works known col­lec­tive­ly as “The Rat­line.” Who­ev­er he was, “Poch,” like so many Nazis, found suc­cor in the Vat­i­can. A Croa­t­ian priest–Father Draganovic–was one the prime movers of the Rat­line The sto­ry of the Rat­line and the Vat­i­can’s oper­a­tional sanc­tion­ing of the butch­ers of the Vat­i­can-backed Croa­t­ian Ustachi casts a dif­fer­ent his­tor­i­cal light on recent events. Pope Fran­cis’s vis­it to the Unit­ed States has dom­i­nat­ed the news cycle, with some cov­er­age going to the con­tro­ver­sy over his can­on­iza­tion of Father Juniper Ser­ra, regard­ed as a bru­tal oppres­sor by Native Amer­i­can archivists. What has received no sub­stan­tive cov­er­age is the pend­ing beat­i­fi­ca­tion of Arch­bish­op Stepinac, a mem­ber of the Ustachi par­lia­ment dur­ing World War II. Immi­gra­tion has dom­i­nat­ed the news recent­ly, with the flood of refugees from the wars in the Mid­dle East over­whelm­ing Euro­pean infra­struc­ture as the phe­nom­e­non dom­i­nates polit­i­cal debate. Don­ald Trump cap­i­tal­izes on anti-immi­grant xeno­pho­bia to lead the field of pre­sump­tive GOP Pres­i­den­tial can­di­dates. In this broad­cast, we con­tin­ue to “Fol­low the Mon­ey” and ana­lyze its pri­ma­ry role in the per­pet­u­a­tion of Nazism and its atten­dant method­olo­gies and resul­tant ills. Peter notes that the post­war Nazi Under­ground con­sti­tut­ed a “gov­ern­ment-in-exile” and “an army in exile.” “Fol­low­ing the mon­ey” moved by what Mr. Emory calls The Under­ground Reich inevitably leads to Fran­cois Genoud, Hjal­mar Schacht and the exten­sive post­war Nazi con­nec­tions to Mid­dle East­ern anti-colo­nial, anti-Israel and ter­ror­ist milieux. The Third Reich and its post­war under­ground man­i­fes­ta­tion direct­ly impact­ed, inter­sect­ed with, and formed the oper­a­tional tem­plate for, many of the world’s ter­ror­ist orga­ni­za­tions. Pick­ing up where FTR #844 left off, this pro­gram exam­ines devel­op­ments in Indone­sia after the 1965 CIA coup that deposed Sukarno. An appar­ent par­tic­i­pant in an unsuc­cess­ful 1958 attempt against Sukarno was Lee Har­vey Oswald. Before tack­ling the bulk of the Indone­sia mate­r­i­al, Peter notes that the sup­posed “Com­mu­nist” Oswald actu­al­ly had con­nec­tions to Nazi ele­ments. After an encap­su­la­tion of the Japan­ese Gold­en Lily pro­gram that loot­ed much of Asia, the pro­gram sets forth some of the mys­ter­ies that unfold in con­nec­tion with the dis­po­si­tion of Sukarno’s “Rev­o­lu­tion­ary Fund.” Appar­ent­ly com­prised of both Gold­en Lily trea­sure and war loot trans­port­ed to the Asia by the Third Reich, the Rev­o­lu­tion­ary Fund has defied efforts by Sukarno fam­i­ly mem­bers and asso­ciates to obtain some of the wealth. Among the cast of char­ac­ters wind­ing through the mys­te­ri­ous cor­ri­dors of the Rev­o­lu­tion­ary Fund inves­tiga­tive maze are: a mys­te­ri­ous Dr. Poch, alleged in an Indone­sian best sell­er by Dr. Sus­ro Huso­do to have been Adolf Hitler; the pro­fes­sion­al frus­tra­tion and mys­te­ri­ous demise of Dr. Edi­son Damanik, who attempt­ed to obtain some of the Rev­o­lu­tion­ary Fund loot; arms deal­er Soeryo Goer­it­no, who suf­fered a dis­abling stroke or seizure when he attempt­ed to nav­i­gate the per­ilous waters of the Rev­o­lu­tion­ary Fund and its trib­u­taries.

Peter Lev­en­da’s “The Hitler Lega­cy” is, in Mr. Emory’s opin­ion, one of the most impor­tant polit­i­cal books ever writ­ten. This sev­enth inter­view with Peter about the book sets forth the pow­er­ful Nazi pres­ence in Indone­sia pri­or to, dur­ing, and after World War II. In addi­tion to the sig­nif­i­cant pres­ence of the Dutch Nazi par­ty in Indone­sia, the NSDAP also had a sig­nif­i­cant pres­ence in this for­mer colony of the Nether­lands. The most pop­u­lous Mus­lim coun­try in the world, Indone­sia was seen as the key ele­ment in an Islamist bul­wark against Com­mu­nist Chi­na. This strat­a­gem was envi­sioned by Charles Willough­by, Gen­er­al Dou­glas MacArthur’s intel­li­gence chief and a doc­tri­naire fas­cist. Although sup­port­ive of Axis con­quest of the Nether­lands and Indone­sia, which he saw as free­ing the arch­i­pel­ago from colo­nial dom­i­na­tion, Sukarno espoused a “Third Way” at the con­fer­ence of Non-Aligned nations in Ban­dung in 1955. This led the US to see him as a Com­mu­nist and begin attempts to depose him. In order to pro­vide financ­ing for Indone­sia and oth­er Third World coun­tries, Sukarno appears to have turned to Hjal­mar Schacht, Hitler’s finance min­is­ter, who uti­lized Nazi gold ship­ments to Asia to “prime the eco­nom­ic pump” for this abortive project.

This sixth in a pro­ject­ed series of nine inter­views with Peter Lev­en­da, con­tin­ues analy­sis of what Mr. Emory views as one of the most impor­tant books ever writ­ten. Resum­ing a point of dis­cus­sion from FTR #842, we fur­ther devel­op the nature of Tibetan Bud­dhism, cer­tain sim­i­lar­i­ties with Nazi phi­los­o­phy and occult beliefs, and how this played into the devel­op­ment of the Dalai Lama’s oper­a­tional links to some tru­ly “inter­est­ing” ele­ments. Advanc­ing analy­sis of the “weaponiza­tion of reli­gion” and ele­ments of Bud­dhism, in par­tic­u­lar, Peter high­lights the lit­tle-known but pro­found fas­cist influ­ence on, and sup­port from, the Zen Bud­dhist com­mu­ni­ty. Pur­suant to the dis­cus­sion of “weaponized reli­gion,” Peter sets forth his the­sis that Nazism was a form of cult or spir­i­tu­al belief. As we have seen, Nazi phi­los­o­phy res­onat­ed effec­tive­ly with some aspects of “glob­al jihadism,” Tibetan Bud­dhism and wartime prac­ti­cioners of Zen Bud­dhism. Lis­ten­ers should remem­ber that ele­ments of U.S. intel­li­gence co-opt­ed “weaponized reli­gion” dur­ing the Cold war, includ­ing glob­al jihadism and Tibetan Bud­dhism. Pro­gram high­lights include: the “jihadist” nature of Tibetan Bud­dhism; the role of Zen lumi­nar­ies D.T. Suzu­ki and Karl­fried Graf Dur­ck­heim in devel­op­ing the Zen-Bushi­do link; the roles of both men in pop­u­lar­iz­ing Zen Bud­dhism in the post-World War II peri­od.
