ChrisÂtÂian NationÂalÂism isn’t simÂply on the rise in the UnitÂed States. It’s already at the top, thanks in no small part to the CounÂcil for NationÂal PolÂiÂcy (CNP) and the myrÂiÂad of groups operÂatÂing under its theoÂcratÂic umbrelÂla. The Supreme Court is domÂiÂnatÂed by a hard right majorÂiÂty and there’s even the CNP’s planned mass purges — startÂing with the govÂernÂment but not endÂing there — under the ‘SchedÂule F’/Project 2025 label. That’s all part of the grim conÂtext surÂroundÂing a series of reports around the new SpeakÂer of the House, Mike JohnÂson that should raise seriÂous quesÂtions about just how much influÂence the leadÂing ChrisÂtÂian NationÂalÂist hold over new SpeakÂer of the House. But thanks the House and Supreme Court aren’t the only govÂernÂment instiÂtuÂtion under ChrisÂtÂian NationÂalÂism sway. States RepubÂliÂcans are increasÂingÂly adoptÂing ChrisÂtÂian NationÂalÂist laws, with Texas leadÂing the way under the way under the vision of CNP pseuÂdo-hisÂtoÂriÂan David BarÂton. It turns out JohnÂson and BarÂton are long-time allies who share the same vision for the future. A vision in line with the ‘disÂciÂpleÂship’ form of authorÂiÂtarÂiÂan ChrisÂtianÂiÂty now mainÂstreamed in the CNP-domÂiÂnatÂed netÂwork of 47,000 churchÂes in the SouthÂern BapÂtist ConÂvenÂtion (SBC). Which also hapÂpens to be a denomÂiÂnaÂtion grapÂpling with a sex abuse mega-scanÂdal hauntÂingÂly remÂiÂnisÂcent of the Catholic Church’s mega-abuse scanÂdal. A mega-scanÂdal with a numÂber of major CNP figÂures operÂatÂing as abusers or enablers. It’s that broadÂer interÂsecÂtion of Mike JohnÂson’s ties to ChrisÂtÂian NationÂalÂism with this growÂing SBC abuse mega-scanÂdal that we’re going to look at in this post.
